10 Things Every 20-Something Should Do In Life

Travel, among other things.

1. Travel

Landing a 9-5 job can be substantial. What's the rush, anyways? After graduation, you have time to explore and experience new people and food in a foreign country. You're not tied down to anything yet, so might as well take the opportunity. Stop living vicariously through Instagram and Facebook photos of abroad, and experience it yourself.

2. Chase your dream job

It's not as irrational, or unrealistic as you might think. You're young and fresh. What's excitement without a little challenge here and there? Be hopeful. Take a chance. Pursue your dreams even when it seems unattainable. What's the worse that happens? You fail? You'll learn to move past it, because success is nothing without failure.

3. Branch out of your comfort zone

Some of your best memories will happen when you step out of your shell and do something that terrifies you. The adrenaline rush afterwards is worth it. Those ten seconds of liquid courage could be your ticket to a new beau. If you don't do it now, realistically, will you ever? I promise you, you'll be happy you did. Expand your horizons and see for yourself.

4. Protest

We all have a voice, why not make it known? Participating in a protest is a thrilling experience, and even if you attend for just 15 minutes, it will be meaningful for you and the people around you.

5. Balance your social life with your professional one

So many 20-somethings are so fixated with getting a job after graduation that they forget there still young. Even if you have work early Wednesday morning, attend happy hour with your sorority sisters on a Tuesday and stay out late. Meet a guy, fill your body up with booze. Just because college is over, does not mean your life is over. You remember the crazy nights with your friends, not the nights you stayed in and slept. Just remember, you have work early in the a.m., so lay low on the tequila.

6. Treat yourself

Make time for yourself. Start a new show, visit the movies, buy yourself a new outfit, cook a new dish you've been infatuated with for years, etc. Clear your mind and live for yourself, not for others.

7. Get fit

Getting in shape is linked to better physical, mental, and emotional health for years to come. It'll make you more productive, keep your brain awake and sharp, you'll sleep and focus better. You'll be a better version of yourself when you do.

8. Try new foods

Nothings worse than a close-minded individual who's too picky to try new things. Screw those diet fads, and indulge in whatever the f*** you want. Discover new restaurants, eat exotic foods, eat layers on layers of chocolate. Just eat whatever you desire.

9. Remove toxic friendships/relationships

After college, you're not forced to stay connected to anyone you don't want in your life. If they bring you down, why let them stay? Your better off.

10. Say yes, more than no

Be opened to anything. Want to go skydiving? Go. Want to spontaneously take a road trip with a group of friends? Why not. Do what makes you happy.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
