In our early 20s, many of us are introduced to the post-grad world, which is apparently full of possibilities. We are taught that we can travel the world, get our dream job, accomplish anything we put our mind to! But, as most of us know, things do not always go as planned. Life throws us curve balls and we have to take them.
While it’s sort of terrifying, once you accept that being “grown up” isn’t exactly what you thought it would be, it can still be pretty freeing. I'm not telling you to not set goals for yourself — that's still important. But if you go off track a bit, that's okay too. From finding your significant other for life to figuring out how to pay off your mountain of loads, here's a list of 10 things that you don't actually have to figure out right after graduation.
1. Landing Your Dream Job
Just because you graduated you shouldn't believe that your dream job will be waiting right around the corner for you. You worked hard to be where you are, and maybe you'll have to accept some offers before you find what really makes you happy and that is okay.
2. How To Travel The World
Chances are, not matter how many part-time job you had in college, you don't have enough money to travel the world straight out of college. You had other debt and finances that needed to be taken care of first. But if you're dream is to travel, start small, and start now. Go on one vacation, then save for another. Soon enough youll be saving and be able to travel more than ever!
3. The Person You Will Marry
Not everyone finds the person who they will spend their life with while they're at college. A lot of people like to be single in college, and settle down later. Enjoy your time while you're single, and when you least expect it the right person will come along and you'll know right then and there
4. Where You want To Live The Rest Of Your Life
I'm sure, like me, you have an idea of where you want to live when you're older. But the world has a funny way of throwing you curve balls. Sometimes family and jobs take you to places unexpected that you never planned for. That is okay. Do what's best for you, and if you're happy there, anywhere is home.
5. Picking Up A New Adult Hobby
You do not have to learn to sew or paint professionally. Do what you love, you don't have to be an adult quite yet.
6. Cooking Fancy Meals
Of course cooking is a good skill to have, but no one needs to go out of their way to learn. Recipes.com is always there to help. Or Ramen. Ramen is always there.
7. Alllllll Your Finances
I have no idea how to handle my finances, and there is a good chance you don't either. You can always ask your parents or a friend for help. Just go with the flow.
8. How To Balance Your Relationships
Growing up will never be easy. New opportunities and relationships arise and can take time away from some current relationships you have. But no matter where you go, no one is more than a phone call away.
9. How To Decorate Your Apartment
No one right out of college has to money or time to make sure everything matches. That lamp was on sale? Get it. That couch on the side of the road is free? Get it.
10. Exactly What You Want To Do With Your Life
Life comes at you hard and fast. No one has any idea where there going to be in a year or exactly what they want to do. I bet no one was even ready to graduate, because that is just how fast life happens. All I know is that everything happens for a reason and we need to be ready for that. Keep going at your own pace, accomplishing your goals, and chasing your dreams, and just by that you're on the right path.
