I've been curvy since puberty hit me. One day I was flat chested like everyone else and the next BAM, two large melons sprouted from my chest.
Normally, when we think of curvy, we think of a big chest, butt, hips - the whole nine yards. But being curvy is a generalized word for an array of bodies. Women in general have many stereotypes against them, especially when it comes to body shape. You're either too big or too small, too curvy or too thin. It's a no-win situation. Being a curvy woman, I hear the same things across the board.
When talking to other curvy women about it, these are things that we're all tired of hearing:
1. We're tired of being told that we shouldn't wear certain things
If we aren't supposed to wear them, why were they made
2. We're tired of being told that we should leave crop top to thinner girls
Again, it was made in my size and it fits, so I'm wearing it. I love me a crop top and I'm going to wear it when I please...on my days off of work.
3. We're tired of being told we should lose weight
How does being curvy instantly make us fat? Why is it okay for you to make us feel bad about our bodies that we live in constantly? Our bodies are our own for life. We love them.
4. We're tired of being shamed for our rolls, curves or thunder thighs
My rolls were given to me by the delicious things know as fries. Sorry to upset you with them, but my fry addiction isn't going anywhere
5.Speaking of thunder thighs, we're tired of being told that we need to have a thigh gap
6. We're tired of being told that we're not your type of woman
Just so you know, my curves are a lot to handle and only the strongest people have been able to. I guess you know what that means. Try lifting some weights.
7. We're tired of feeling like we're not good enough for society because we don't look like a Victoria's Secret model
Have you ever looked into the strict diets those ladies have to go through? No thanks, I'll stick with my fries.
8. When it's swimsuit season, we're tired of being told that we should stick to one piece swimsuits
Last time I checked, I could wear whatever swimsuit I was comfortable in, whether it be bikini, tankini, monokini, or whatever other
9. We're tired of having the hardest time finding pants that fit every part of our curves
Um, excuse me, what? It says in your brand description that your pants fit all shapes and sizes, yet I'm sitting here jumping like a kangaroo trying to fit in your pants. When we do find pants that fit, we have to buy more than one pair because it won't be long until the first pair rip at the seams.
10. We're tired of being told that a dress or long shirt over our leggings because we're making others around us uncomfortable
Excuse me Debra, who told you I was making them uncomfortable? Was it John over there? Well, you can tell him that there's a place for pervs: it's called
11. And please don't tell us that we need a bigger size when you see us in a dress
Again, I'm sorry you're uncomfortable with my butt looking like it's too big in this dress that is actually my size. I already know I have to constantly check to see if my butt is sticking out, you don't need to tell
All jokes aside, being a woman in this world is hard. There's always a Debra or a John waiting around the corner to criticize you for being the lovely woman that you are, whether you're curvy or not. I've never dealt with the skinny side but I bet it sucks just as much. We're women and we should stick together. We should let these societal standards be a means of judgment as to who is worthy or not of being beautiful. You, Sir John and Madam Debra, don't have to believe that curvy is beautiful, but I sure do!
