10 Things I Currently Believe

My beliefs tend to change some every now and then. This is what I believe right now.

As the new year starts, I've been thinking about different ideas and topics that I personally believe. Some of these change often for me while others do not but at this moment these 10 things are things that I believe in:

1. Integrity is everything to me

For me, integrity is doing what you said you would do when you said you would do it. It also means to me that you, in general, have some morals and what not going on.

2. Generalized Anxiety Disorder sucks

Yup. I said it. On a public forum. I have generalized anxiety disorder and it sucks. I lost myself for a while but I've found myself again.

3. I love myself

Self-love is pretty important. I always say you should love yourself but even for awhile I didn't love myself. I didn't love myself because mentally I was really struggling. I was and am happy with my physical appearance but I really disliked that I was struggling so bad with stuff not too many people have struggled with. I love myself now because I realized I was very hard on myself when I shouldn't have been.

4. You can be a decent person without having a religion

That being said you can also be a decent person following any religion. All I care about is someone being kind, respectful, and helpful (if needed). I don't care about your religion or lack thereof. I am not religious myself but I'm not going to judge those that are and I ask that of everyone else.

5. Shopping small for sure makes a difference

Yes, it's easy to go to Walmart and grab something or order from Amazon but recently I have started shopping small whenever I can so that means Etsy. You can usually customize it or if not you still get something that was not made on an assembly line.

6. Being single is okay

I know some people who always want to be in a relationship. One ends and on to the next they go it seems. If that's your thing then you do you but I've come to see that being single really is beneficial especially for a few months. You can find yourself and try new things.

7. Weird/Odd hobbies are totally worth doing

I hula hoop, so what. I love it. I also crochet. It's relaxing. I do all kinds of things and some of my hobbies are not normal and that is totally okay. You do you.

8. Ask for help when you need it

This has been a big thing for me lately. I had a hard time asking for help when I was struggling. I kept to myself and wasn't happy. Now that I've asked for help and all I'm doing so much better and I'm much happier.

9. Be there for your friends

If the going gets rough for a friend don't disappear. Be there for them. It'll make a difference.

10. Try new things all the time

Seriously, try new things that you're excited about. I'm taking a religious studies course for the heck of it and I am so freaking excited. Do something new like laughter yoga at the greenhouse or mediate at the art museum. Try it and see what happens.

These are my 10 things that I believe in right now. They may change tomorrow or they may change 6 months from now. I just encourage you all to be yourselves and continue to be.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

Here are some "Parks and Rec" moments that relate to life struggles that just about everyone faces.

April Ludgate

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.
