For many college students, Thanksgiving break serves as a much needed disconnect from mounds of homework, exams, essays and projects. It's a time to recharge, reconnect with family and friends and find the motivation for that final push through the semester. For some, it is just another holiday featuring ugly sweaters and consuming obscene amounts of food. But for others, it celebrates family, love and blessings. In the words of Chance the Rapper: "When the praises go up, the blessings come down."
Here, a list of ten things every college student is thankful for.
1. Non-dining hall food. Sweet lord, edible food never tasted so good.
2. Sleeping in your own bed again. There is nothing, NOTHING more welcoming to a college student than the sensation of being back in their own bed--especially after a food coma.
3. Seeing all of your hometown best friends again after months apart, and picking things up exactly where they left off.
4. When you think about the amount of mashed potatoes and pie you'll be consuming on Thursday.
5. When it's socially acceptable to go back for seconds and thirds at Thanksgiving dinner.
6. Those families that go for runs on Thanksgiving Day.
7. Political discussions during dinner. During election year. After Trump won.
8. Seeing all of your relatives again and having them comment on how much older you are.
9. Having those same relatives ask you what you're planning on doing with the rest of your life.
10. Transitioning from Thanksgiving into the Christmas/Hanukkah/extended holiday season.
Happy holidays!
