10 Things College Students Take For Granted

I am sure these things slipped your mind as you went around the table giving thanks this Thanksgiving break.

10 Things College Students Take For Granted

Thanksgiving is behind us and we all had much to be thankful for. Food, family, and good health are three we all can agree on. Being a college student I realized there are some thing that I take for granted.

Here is a list of 10 things you may have forgotten to give thanks to:

1. Professors who put their notes and power-points online

Let's face it, lectures can be boring and hard to stay focused during. So, remember to be thankful for those professors who cut us some slack and lighten our loads.

2. The bus system

Sure, the buses may make us late and sometimes they smell like gym socks... but let's not forget they save us money on parking passes, parking tickets, and are better for our environment. Whether it's on our way to class or coming home from a party at 2 a.m. I am thankful for our bus system and bus drivers.

3. Parties that aren't BYOB

Whether it's a keg or some jungle juice, I am forever grateful to the gracious hosts that supply their guests with free liquor. You're the real MVPs.

4. Students that come to class in pajamas

Everyone has had this kid in at least one college class and personally I want to thank them. They have shown by example that no matter how tired you are and how badly you want to stay in bed, you can still make it to class.

5. Security guards that don't shut down the party

Shout out to the men and women who know we're too loud, too wild, and a little too irresponsible, but still manage to let us have a good time and stay safe.

6. Being able to make bad decisions and justify them by saying, "were in college!"

It's acceptable now shotgun ten beers and rap all the lyrics to Colt 45, but when we're in our thirties and at an office party it may be frowned upon. Just be thankful that people judge our poor choices less now then they ever will.

7. The plethora of restaurants on and around campus.

Within just a few miles from each other you can choose to eat Italian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, or some classic American pub food. They may not be the healthiest of restaurants but I am thankful for each and every one for curing my cravings.

8. Campus events that have giveaways

Food, t-shirts, pens, and koozies. Free is free and I am thankful for anything anyone is willing to give to me just for showing up.

9. Professors who cancel class just because

I know we're here to learn, but there is no better feeling than checking your e-mail in the morning and seeing that your professor cancelled class. Whether it's because they are sick or have something more important going on... we all love a day off.

10. All the people I've met... both good and bad

Being in college has taught us all many life lessons. We can learn something from each and every person we meet. So, I am thankful for my friends and acquaintances who are teaching me what college is all about.

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.
