10 Things Choir Kids Know All Too Well

1. The struggle is real when it comes to sight-singing.

So much solfege. So much rhythm.

2. Nothing is better than finally nailing that really hard part of the song, and your director's smile is the most satisfying thing ever.

Nothing is better than not only knowing the choir's performance was incredible, but having your director tear up.

3. You are sung the most beautiful version of happy birthday ever.

Nothing is better than an angel-choir harmony on your birthday. It's pretty much the highlight of your day.

4. Prepare to have your songs stuck in your head for the whole day, or you know, the rest of your life.

Humming to yourself in the hallways and in class, it's inevitable. But honestly, you can't really help it, you love the songs so much. You aren't alone, we really all know the struggle.

5. The choir room is your favorite place in the entire school, maybe the entire world.

You wish you could live there permanently, because you almost already do. There are so many memories that that room holds, and you love walking there everyday for class.

6. Getting new sheet music and treating it like a baby, then a month later, the inside is just a tornado of scribbled notes.

When you first get new sheet music, it's so nice and neat that you are afraid to mess it up. All too soon, it's a mess with all the arrows and circles and underlines. But, you have a sense of pride when you knew all those marks were worth it, and the choir sounds incredible.

7. Concerts are the highlight of the school year.

You get so excited for concert night. It's time to show off what you all have been working so hard on, and your excitement leading up to concert night is something incomparable with anything else.

8. Not falling off the risers is your mission.

"I will not fall, I will not fall, I will not fall." Don't even think about adding 6-inch heels into that equation.

9. You are a part of something bigger than yourself.

Science proves that our heartbeats sync up when we all sing together. This is the beauty of music, that everyone in choir can come together and create something so wonderful.

10. You have gained a new family through choir, and you cherish every second of it, because you never want it to end.

Choir isn't just about singing songs, it's about art, it's about creating, it's about family and working together. All the late night rehearsals and bus rides has given you friendships that are unlike any other, and you are so thankful for them. Choir is truly something beautiful, and being a part of it is something you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
