10 Things I Am Starting To Miss About High School

It's the third week of school and I am already wishing it was over. These are the times when I wish I was back in high school and I didn't have a worry or care in the world. Here are 10 things from high school that I desperately wish I had in college.

1. A set school time.

It was so nice finishing school at 2:50 p.m. every single day, and having a set time of when I could go home and indulge in snacks, never leave the comfort of my couch and watch endless amounts of television. Now, my schedule is all over the place and I have to get up at 6:30 a.m. three days a week, and I barely have any free time.

2. Gym Class.

The thing I miss most about this class is that it was basically a free period for me and my friends to socialize and catch up on what's going on in each other's lives. Now, I don't have any free time in my school days, and I have to resort to texting and face timing my friends who live halfway across the country.

3. Minimal Homework.

I never really had any homework to do in high school (I know, it's such a shocker), but I was assigned maybe, one or two things every week at the most. I was never staying up past 11 p.m. writing papers or reading five excerpts from a book for class the next day. Now, I barely go to bed before 2 a.m. and I only get about five or six hours of sleep a day.

4. Minimal Studying.

I've never been good at taking tests (I mean, who is), but I've never had a time where I was studying for more than two classes in one week (I know, it's practically unheard of). It's only the second week of school, and I have already had two quizzes, two papers and more reading than I have ever done in my entire high school career.

5. Lunch Time.

This was a time when I could sit down for an hour and not have to think about how many assignments or tests I have to study for. Now, I spend my lunch trying to figure out a way to shove my food into my mouth before my next lecture in 30 minutes, while trying to figure out how I am going to study for three tests and write a 10-page paper all in one week.

6. Having pre-paid lunches.

We're all broke college students here, and, let's be real, we're not exactly made of money at the moment. I don't always have time to run back to my apartment and make food in between my classes, so that causes me to go and spend at least $8 or $9 just on food. At the end of the week, it really starts to put a dent in your wallet when you suddenly realize that you just spent $40 on meals alone.

7. Having my classes in one building.

I think this might be the thing that I miss the most. My campus is full of big hills and is very spread out, and, let me tell you, it is not easy to get from West Commons to EBA within a 10-minute walking period. It just cannot be done.

8. Having half days of school.

This should definitely be a rule in college. Half days could allow students to study, read more and provide extra time for us to do our homework assignments. It would be absolutely perfect.

9. Taking sick days.

If I miss one lecture, it's basically like the world has fallen into a million pieces. There are no more days where I can hide from my responsibilities just because I wanted to stay home for the day and relax.

10. Having your parents write you notes for literally everything.

Everything could be fixed just by a single hand-written note from one of your parents. If you missed a day of school and had a letter from your parent, you would be excused. If you went home early for the day but had a note from your parent, everything would be excused. If only it were still that easy...

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
