Let's be honest, being a pre-med major is quite a difficult yet rewarding (and also strange) experience.
1. Everything looks like something you've studied.
After hours of studying, your brain is saturated with all things science. That tree? Definitely a dendrite. Those lines on the sidewalk? No doubt that is smooth muscle tissue.
2. You have no idea what you're doing.
You're so used to not knowing what is going on that you are practically a pro at pretending you know exactly what to do.
3. You daydream about the day you're accepted into medical school.
Nothing sounds sweeter than receiving that acceptance letter to your dream school. For a few minutes, you're so motivated and happy . . . until you look at your organic chemistry homework . . .
4. Missing out because you have to study is almost a daily struggle.
While all your friends are attending the party or game, you have an Anatomy and Physiology exam the next day and know that for the sake of your future as a physician, no is the only answer.
5. Finals week can be a living nightmare.
A few overdoses on caffeine + 3 hours of sleep + a shower (hopefully) + a mental breakdown = finals week.
6. You're always looking for volunteer, research, and shadowing opportunities.
The more opportunities and the more variety the better!! You jump on each opportunity to boost that resume.
7. Skipping one day in Organic Chemistry feels like you actually skipped a week.
After skipping just one class, the following class sounds like an entire new language.
8. You love science jokes way too much.
You possess a strange appreciation for the weird puns only those who have a knowledge of science can understand.
9. Coffee is your lifeline.
8:00 AM class? Late night study session? Coffee, coffee and more coffee!
10. You wouldn't have it any other way.
At the end of the day, you know all the work is worth it and you realize it really isn't that bad . . . especially compared to medical school.
Happy studies, my pre-med friends!! Good luck and have an amazing semester!
