10 Things All College Students Experience When Going Out

The long, stressful week is over, and everybody is ready for the weekend. It is not stressful at all, right? FALSE! In college, going out can be just as chaotic as studying for a midterm or writing a paper. Both require preparation, both cause a loss of sleep, and usually both end in disappointment. It becomes even more relevant when you go to a school that is smaller and has little to no night life, like Brandeis. With that being said, I give you the chaotic process of a night out as a college student.

1. Super pumped for the going out during the week

All week, you just pray and hope that the weekend could just come quicker. You cannot wait to just roll out with the squad and have a lit night and have no work to worry about. Then when the weekend eventually rolls around...

2. Don't make me go!

...you want to do anything, but go out. The week was so long and tiring all you want to do is stay in bed, have a pint of Ben&Jerry's, and watch Netflix. Although ever fiber of your being is yelling "stay in", you somehow always end up going out.

3. Where do we go?

If I were at a big state school, finding a place to actually go at night would not be a problem, but at a school like Brandeis, it can be a hit or miss. I remember having some of my friends visit on the weekends and we would either have nowhere to go or end up at some "birthday party" of a person we barely knew. To say the least, I think they got a bad impression of the night-life.

4. I am going to look like a boss

You always tell yourself that you are going to actually try on the weekend to make up for how much of a slob you looked like during the week. In all honesty, last year I think I went out in a sweatshirt and leggings at one point. I guess trying to look somewhat decent in any case is just too much of a hassle.

5. I am just going out for the food after

Let us all just be completely truthful with ourselves; it is all about the food that you are going to get at the end of the night. It is all you think about when you are at the party. In my case, the biggest decision of the night is 'The Stein or Wendy's?'

6. Where did all my friends go?

You always make plans to go out with you friend group and stick with each other all night. This never actually goes as planned. You are at a party, dancing and socializing. All is good, but then you realize that the squad has been broken apart. Turns out they all ditched while you were just having a grand old time dancing alone. Your night has now turned into 'let's find people we know wandering South St.'

7. Let's stay in one place tonight, guys

From experience, it is easy to say that party hopping is not the best nor the most fun thing to do on your night out. There seems to be a trend, in my friend group at least, where one of us says, 'guys, let's try and just stay at one party tonight.' This never ever happens...

8. Why are we party hopping?

...and we end up going to almost every party going on at Brandeis that night. If we are lucky, we only hope once and it is a good night.

9. Can we go home now? (Can we get food now?)

About 2 hours into the night, you get somewhat bored, the same songs start to play on repeat, and you start to get kinda hungry. Then it becomes about that time when you start to nag your friends about leaving and getting some chicken nuggets or some fries with a frosty.

10. I did not know we were having a slumber party

The best part, and the biggest surprise of the night is seeing how many people end up sleeping over. You always have those friends who are just too lazy to walk back to their room. When you wake up, there they all are. You can find them on the floor, on the couch, and even sometimes in your bed.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
