10 Things To Thank Your College Best Friend For

As you start college you leave behind the old friends as you make new ones. You may feel pressured with the feeling that you have to make tons of new friends and that you have to find a group where you belong. You may be struggling with the idea that your best friend from back home isn't there with you but see, you may come to meet a new friend who will be there for you at college. This person will be your partner in crime as you experience all that college has to offer as well as helping you along the way in the crazy adventure that we call life. There are several things to thank this person for but you may not even know it yet. Here are a few things that I would like to thank my college best friend for.

1. Thank you for wanting to know me.

In my life I have met many people along the way who never wanted to show interest in me or just didn't take the time to get to know me at all. Thank you for being one of those people who actually asks questions about how my day is going, how school is and how I'm feeling. Thank you for also remembering the things that I say to you.

2. Thank you for being there to listen to me.

If it's a stressful week where all my assignments are due at once or if it's a day where I'm frustrated because nobody held the door open for me or because they ran out of my favorite drink at Starbucks, you are the person who I go to tell and you listen to me. You may laugh and call me crazy or give me that crazy look that you do but you still listen. Thank you for letting me whine and vent about anything.

3. Thank you for the adventures.

When school gets to be to stressful or it's been a crazy week at work, you always know what to do. Thank you for the shopping runs at Target, the movie screenings in a cemetery and even the last minute concerts. These adventures that we have, big or small, mean the most to me and I'll always be thankful because of them. Escaping life with you for a little while is one of the things that i look forward too.

4. Thank you for always being down to eat food.

You are the biggest food person that I know which makes it so easy to go to you when I'm hungry and want food. Thank you for sharing your love of food with me and introducing me to new places where you make me stuff my face right alongside you.

5. Thank you for the all the advice.

Right before I have a big exam or even a quiz, you always send me that quick text wishing me luck. You always manage to help me when I'm stressing out over school. Even if I have other life problems I turn to you and you share stories with me that help me get through mine. Thank you for caring enough to help me.

6. Thank you for never sugarcoating anything.

You are the one person who I can always count on to tell things how they are and who doesn't lie. You are always straightforward and say how you feel. No matter who you are talking to, you get your point across. Thank you for being that person who I can turn to for that. Please never stop being like that.

7. Thank you for accepting me.

I know you think that I'm the biggest weirdo but here's a little secret, so are you. The thing is you still accept me for who I am. I've met a lot of people in my life who couldn't accept me for who I was or thought I wasn't worth their time. No matter how strange I act or no matter what crazy things come out of my mouth, at the end of the day you're still my friend. Thank you for letting me be who I am.

8. Thank you for teaching me that life isn't perfect.

Either it's having bad grades, dropping my books, forgetting where I parked my car, failing a test or people leaving my life, you continue to teach me every day that life won't always go your way. I don't even think that you realize you teach me so many lessons but you do and I wanted to thank you for that.

9. Thank you for being somebody that I can admire.

Out of all the things I want to thank you for this is one of the most important ones. From the first time that I met you, I had no idea that you would make such a big impact on my life. You juggle so much in your life from school, work, your internship, paying your bills and becoming an adult, you do it all. Everyday I think about how I admire you for how you handle everything. Thank you for doing what you do but also somehow managing to be the beautiful person that you are.

10. Thank you for being you.

At the end of the day the one thing that I know I'm always thankful for is having a person who is always herself and not somebody else. Thank you for always being the beautiful, hard working, honest, kind, hilarious, supportive person that you are. You may not think that who you are is important so I hope I made that clear for you.

Thank you Emmely Camargo, for all that you do and for all that you are.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
