Theatre is a special place full of all kinds of people. The beautiful thing about theatre is that everyone is accepted and welcome. In school, I wasn't sporty nor was I interested in sports, so naturally I fell in to theatre and fell in love with it even faster. Of course, theatre does come with challenges and as a theatre kid myself, these struggles are all too real.
1. Bobby Pins EVERYWHERE
It seems like you buy a new pack of bobby pins JUST to have them disappear within like, two hours.
2. Mic Tape + Baby Hairs = Painful Disaster
To rip it off all at once and basically wax your hairline? Or go slowly, trying to peel the hair from the tape?
3. Overheating Under Stage Lights
Heat stroke will vary considering how elaborate your costume is.
4. No One Actually Sews Costumes For Alterations, We Just Safety Pin It Instead
Probably never looked as seamless as we thought it did.
5. Green Room Rituals
Green room is filled with songs and bittersweet moments between the cast. It won't be a good night if you don't do your pre-show rituals.
6. Candy Grams!
You can always count on your regulars: parents, other family members, and best friends to send you your favorite candy.
7. Character Shoes
They're fun until the soles wear down. Nothing is more terrifying than slipping in character shoes.
8. The Cast Party (Past and Present)
A religious experience.
9. Breakdowns
Who's having a breakdown? You're having a breakdown? I'm having a breakdown?
10. Having A Second Family
You probably wanted to strangle everyone at least once, but despite everything, you wouldn't trade these friendships for the world .
Despite all of our struggles, theatre kids are more than happy to put up with things if it means we get to perform. In fact, our struggles even brings us closer together. Because that's what it's really all about: being able to form unbreakable friendships and do the thing you love with the people you love.
