Videos have skyrocketed in popularity on Facebook, with over 100 million hours of videos watched a day. The Facebook page, Tasty, has found the ultimate combination to success on such a platform: video and food. The page has sped up video tutorials of recipes in attempts to demonstrate that cooking is actually easy and that we shouldn’t be discouraged from a recipe just because we don’t understand all of the lingo. The video tutorials all use simple ingredients as well as everyday cookware that are found in standard kitchens.

I, succumbing to the aesthetic of the exotic

desserts posted on their page, decided to try out a Tasty recipe to see if I could replicate the beautiful afterimage. Now, all Tasty recipes are certainly achievable, maybe for a chef. But as someone who somehow manages to screw everything up, I noticed that these recipes were not goof-proof. Without further ado, here are 10 Tasty recipes that are feasible for the average cook.

1. Grilled Shrimp Tacos with Creamy Cilantro Sauce

This recipe is great for a dinner with a lot of guests over (one

recipe makes 12 tacos) because it is upscale and tacos are always a crowd favorite. This is one that will fool your friends into thinking that you should audition for Top Chef when in reality, you just flipped some shrimp on a grill for three minutes on each side. Don’t be scared of the skewers or the grill. Really, all you have to be worried of is if one of your friends doesn’t like cilantro (honestly, it’s delicious and doesn’t taste like soap, okay?) For more information on this recipe, click here.

2. Blueberry Pancake Muffins

I have lived on this Earth for 17 years and I have never once met someone who wasn’t a fan of muffins. This recipe is so useful for those who usually skip breakfast, as you can make them the night before and then pick it up as you’re out the door. It’s hard to mess this one up because all you have to do is stir everything into a bowl and then pour it into some muffin tins. If you don’t like blueberries, you can easily substitute something else like chocolate chips. For more information on this recipe, click here.

3. Pizza Bombs

Once you make these once, your friends will be begging you to make them again and again. After all, the name is very accurate. This is like a pizza explosion in your mouth. If that doesn’t sound awesome, then you should probably just leave. To check out this “bomb” recipe, click here.

4. Sliders Four Ways

Hamburgers are a classic and because they’re so popular, people always have high standards for them. With this recipe of preparing sliders four ways, you have various options to individualize the sliders to your own preferences and make all of your guests happy. Here are the recipes.

5. Biscuit Roses

Ever wonder if you could the ristorante-quality Italian bread? Well, with this super cute recipe, you can easily make your own appetizer bread that will be hard to put down. Honestly, don’t worry about if you’re going to be able to make them: worry that you won’t be able to stop. Here’s instructions on how to metaphorically drown yourself in bread.

6. Pasta Salad Four Ways

Pasta salad is a simple recipe that is useful to bring to events such as potlucks. It is quick to make and doesn’t require much effort. This is sure to please all and this recipe gives various options for your own palate’s taste. More information is available here.

7. Waffles Four Ways

I don’t know if you’re as obsessed with waffles as I am, but if you are, you’ll know it’s necessary to be able to make them yourself (after all, IHOP gets expensive when you go so often.) These recipes allow you to get creative while still keeping the classic waffle feel. Click here for more.

8. Loaded Mashed Potato Cups

If you are looking to portion your potatoes a little bit better, this is the recipe for you. It gives you the great taste of a loaded potato without the mess and it ensures that no one takes too much mashed potatoes if you make it for a large group. Here’s how to make these economically loaded mashed potatoes.

9. Baked Ham and Cheese Ring

This recipe is fantastic for large parties or for when you are having some friends over to hang out. They are easy and convenient to make, as they are naturally split into slices and packed with flavor to guarantee that everyone is happy with them. They’re a bulk recipe, so you can make this delicious sandwich and eat off it for days. Here's how.

10. Chocolate Cupcake in an Orange Cup

To end the list with a bang is a chocolate cupcake with an orange peel wrapper. This is such a clever and delicious recipe that gives off an air of complexity but is rather simple. Even for a first time baker, the instructions are easy to follow and even though it may take a little longer, it is worth it for the respect you will get. Are you ready for Cupcake Wars with this one? Here’s how to become a cupcake protégé.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
