Summer 2016 is here and there are a million things you want to do in the short amount of time you have at hand. I've set aside a little list of the necessities that always need to be done during your summer break before hitting the books again in the Fall.

1. Family Time.

You get back home from college or you've finished a year of high school and you want to dedicate all your time to fun with friends. Well, friends are great but family is important too. You don't wanna miss that Family BBQ at Aunt Vernie's or that Sunday Supper at Aunt Louise's. There are precious memories that are bound to be made and keeping family close is very important because they've always been there.

2. Working Time!

You always have to put aside a little time to make some of that money. If it's working fast food and having a minimum of 30 hours a week, that's enough to keep the money rolling in to keep your summer going.

3. Set aside 'you time.'

Don't over do it. You need that extra hour once every now and then to just chill and watch Netflix without having to pamper company or staying cooped up at your best friends house. It's good to have some you time. It also won't hurt to just sleep off the exhaustion from the year or the crazy times you've been having.

4. Here's to the nights that turned into mornings, with the friends that turned into family.

Summer is an important time to make the best memories of your life. Sure the tan lines will fade but the memories will stay with you forever. This is the time to take as many adventures as you possibly can, with some of the most important people in your life.

5. Start clearing that bucket list.

This is the perfect time to start doing the things you've always wanted to do. You're only young once and you may not have another chance to accomplish the "goals" of 19-year-old you. Sure they seem kind of dumb now and once you're older you'll wonder why it ever crossed your mind but at least you won't be thinking, "Why didn't I do that..?"

6. Find some sand and water and lose yourself.

It doesn't have to be an ocean or beach, it could just be the closest lake to where you live. Go there and forget all your worries, have fun. Lose yourself in the sand that surrounds you and the waves that are crashing against you.

7. Do something creative.

Let go of your inner artist. Create a masterpiece or maybe just something your mom would put on the refrigerator. Either way, don't get caught up in the rush of summer that you don't relax. Take it easy and maybe paint a picture.

8. Go four wheeling!

There's nothing like the rush you get when you go four wheeling with great friends/family. Have a blast, be careful and don't be afraid to get stuck.

9. Go to your local fair.

The fair is always the place you go where the majority of your friends will be all at once. This is the time about half way through summer where you go to show off your tan, maybe your new boyfriend or girlfriend. The fair is a great place to reunite with old friends and share summer stories so far or plan more with new friends.

10. Finally, go on a simple picnic, go fishing or go to the park.

These are pretty basic activities to do but nonetheless are very important. These are a sure way to not break your wallet and you still have a good time. These are perfect ways to start winding down from your summer break and getting ready for the Fall to set in.

There you have it, some great things to do this summer before you start dreading the incoming year of papers and exams.

Every summer has a story; Hair gets lighter. Skin gets darker. Water gets warmer. Drinks get colder. Music gets louder. Nights get longer. Life gets better.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
