10 Struggles That Muslims Have, As Told By Memes
The Hechinger Report

I think the title pretty much says it all. So, without further ado, here we go!

1. Starting off strong with that gelatin meme.

Seriously. If you have any Muslim friends, you've probably heard about how we can't eat SO MANY GOOD FOODS because of the dreaded gelatin, haha (as the majority of gelatin-based products contain some sort of pork in them. Huge no-no). It's a sad (and marshmallow-less) reality, but push on we must.

2. Hijab jokes galore.

If you wear the hijab, or Muslim headscarf, like I do, you know that the hijab jokes are endless. Not only are bad hair days rendered nonexistent, but remember when I got my hair done last month? Oh, wait...

3. ...plus all those misconceptions about women in general. (LOL!)

And YES, I'm going to college. In another state. In a dorm. By myself. *smiley face*

4. #harampolice

We all have that one friend. Or, more often, family member. You know the one. The guy who calls you out for eating Skittles, or not covering your ankles. You know exactly who I'm talking about.
(Bonus points if it's your non-Muslim friend!)

5. Eid. Need I say more?

The "figuring out what day to take off for Eid" struggle is real. It all depends on the moon sightings. And speaking of moon sightings...

6. WHERE IS THE MOON WHEN WE NEED IT TO BE?

Is it Sunday, or Monday? The mosque across the street says Sunday...but the mosque in Kissimmee says Monday...bout to celebrate Eid twice, brb.

7. Appreciation for Ramadan.

It seems that many non-Muslim will never get it, haha. Which makes it ever so amusing when they're in shock. It's really not that hard, people! (Besides, we usually stuff our faces before sunrise, anyway...)

8. People are often shocked about Ramadan, yes. But don't forget about "the saviors"...

Yes, you've met them. The sweet misguided souls who try to convince us that we don't realize that wearing the traditional Muslim garb and covering up is a means of oppression. It's nice of you to care, Sharon, but I'm fine. I choose what you get to see; is that not freedom?

9. THIS.

This never ceases to make me laugh. Yes, there are white Christians. There are also black Christians, Hispanic Christians, Native American Christians...you know where this is going. So why is this so hard to understand? Kills me every time :D

10. But at the end of the day, it's all good.

We're all people, you know. At the end of the day, even us Muslims like to end our days with a cup of tea (or Starbucks coffee) and have a good laugh with our friends and family. Life is life is life, and it's worth it!

And that's a wrap! I hope you enjoy this latest installment of memes by Lydia. :) If you guys like this, perhaps I'll create a second master post! Let me know what you think!

Until then!

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

You know that all of these things apply to you. You'll just never tell.

CSU

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
