Swimming is a sport that made headlines this year with many great success stories at this past Olympics. Swimmers like Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky continue to bring more attention and interest to the sport. People watched this sport on TV and seem to think it is pretty simple, but ittle do they know competitive swimming is a whole lot more. Here are some swimmer struggles that are dealt with on a regular basis.
1. When your friends ask if you "win" at swimming.
2. Smacking your hand on a lane line or connecting limbs with someone else.
3. Circle-seating
4. Not having a social life because you have practice all the time.
5. When the person behind you doesn't leave five seconds later.
6. Sweating chlorine/always smelling like chlorine.
7. Knowing that your mindset can ultimately determine the outcome of your race.
8. Jumping into a cold pool.
9. General Warm-up.
10. Having your parents try to become your coaches.
11. Having 'fake' rivals or those swimmers that you all of a sudden start to track their times and become super competitive towards even though they don't know it.
12. Slipping off the block/missing the walls on your turns.
13. Being out-touched.
14. Having your sport be underrated.
15. Everyone thinking that your Michael Phelps.
16. When your kneeskin is so tight that you can't breathe.
17. Missing a cut by less than a tenth or hundreth of a second.
18. Knowing that other pools 'taste" different.
19. Being hungry. ALL. THE. TIME.
20. When the coach writes a hard set up on the board and suddenly everyone has to go to the bathroom or has a cramp.
