Some may call you laid-back.
Some may call you chill.
One could even call you...lazy (but only on your really bad days).
Don't feel bad, because I totally get you. You and me, we're self-diagnosed procrastinators. "Self-diagnosed" because it can actually become a serious problem, almost as if it's a disease.
Procrastination is without a doubt one of my biggest struggles in life. Say I have a huge stack of work that needs to be finished by the end of the week. Logically, you would think the normal, human response would be to budget time and work little by little each day.
No, not me.
When I feel overwhelmed I decide to avoid all responsibility for as long as possible, leaving me even more of a stressed out mess, scrambling to finish everything at the very last second.
(If we're being honest, the odds that the article you are reading right now was submitted late are very high, my friend.)
If you, like me, have diagnosed yourself with "The Procrastination Plague," you'll definitely relate to these 8 daily struggles.
1. Doing Absolutely Anything Other Than What You Actually Need To Be Doing
Oh, you have an English paper due at 11:59 p.m.? Better spend 3 hours writing out those 200 Spanish notecards you're never going to use.
2. Taking Accidental Power Naps
I was minding my own business, working on my project. Then, all of the sudden, I opened my eyes and it was 3 a.m. Someone help.
3. Occasionally Spending A Whole Day In Bed Like It's No Big Deal
Usually it's totally by accident; It's just way too easy to get caught up doing nothing.
4. Criticizing Yourself All The Time For Self-Sabotaging
We really only have ourselves to blame.
5. Letting Netflix Distract You For Hours
So what if I finished the first season in one day? I don't have a problem, you have a problem.
6. ...Or Social Media That You Don't Even Really Care About That Much
At this point, you'll scroll through the same Instagram pictures you already liked this morning a thousand more times, as long as it means you get to avoid your responsibilities for just five more minutes.
7. Worrying About How Much You've Procrastinated While Continuing To Procrastinate
Wow, I've really put this off until the last minute. I'm never going to get this done. I'm in so much trouble.
Just give me ten more minutes to process this.
8. Frantically Finishing Everything At The Last Minute
We don't know why we do this to ourselves, but we always make it work by the grace of God.
Look at it this way, doesn't procrastinating make our lives so much more interesting? We just like testing our limits and our capabilities. (And, trust me, you'll never feel more capable than after finishing three projects in one night.)
Always procrastinate with caution.
