Growing up in a family with only guys isn't a terrible thing. It means more attention for being different, no girl fights, and having a team of people to defend you when you need help. Though being the only girl has its perks, it also has some setbacks.

1. No one understands your "time"

Growing up as a female includes a lot of things and changes both physically and emotionally. When it comes that "time" in a girl life, having a bunch of guys in the house who don't understand what's going on isn't the most fun situation to be in.

2. Privacy doesn't exist

Guys aren't as drawn to drama as girls are, but brothers always feel the need to mess with you and know everything you're doing while fathers and uncles need to know what you're doing in order to protect you (and make sure you aren't with guys or getting into trouble.

3. Growing up having no knowledge on how to do your hair/ girl stuff

Guys aren't the best when it comes to teaching you how to do your hair or paint your nails or do your makeup. It's not their faults but it makes things harder when you get to college and can't even braid your friend's hair.

4. Being a tomboy isn't a choice, it just happens

With sports and adrenaline- filled boys around you, there's a 99.9% chance you'll be a tomboy at least in your young years. You'll be the one throwing spirals out in the backyard or the one shooting three- pointers and making all the guys jealous.

5. Your name to outsiders is "the girl"

Being the only girl makes you special, but it also means you're easy to distinguish by just saying, girl. It's easy to spot you out on family outings and in all the family portraits.

6. Being the odd one out

Being the girl of the house puts you at a disadvantage when it comes to guys versus girls. When it comes to making decisions, the guys will always win.

7. Testosterone overload

Guys and girls go through a lot when they are maturing, and being with a bunch of guys means testosterone all over the place! Make sure you have your own space to escape from it for a bit!

8. Bringing your boyfriend home is either hell for them or for you

When you bring a guy home, it either means that the family will torture him and casually threaten to kill him or that they will take your guy from you to do "guy stuff" either way, you're left wanting to scream at your family.

9. Always being asked "what is it like to be the only girl"

Getting this question is a given whenever someone asks who you live with or how many siblings you have. Everyone wants to know how it's like living with a bunch of guys, thinking that it's this entirely different, alien- like life.

10. Getting all the man- love you could ever need

Whenever you need a hug (or someone to beat up an ex) you have someone there to help. No matter how crazy it is living with all of them, they'll always love you and always have your back.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
