Being in a Jewish family is so much fun—we always get together for the holidays, gossip like crazy, and have our own special vocabulary that we only learn from our grandmas and bubbies. Our families are brutally honest, loud, and a little obnoxious, but we love each other anyway. We definitely have our traditions and unique values that we love to share, but that doesn't make getting through Christmas time any easier. Here is just a glimpse of what we Jews go through during the holidays.
1. Your friends always ask, "Aren't you Jewish? Why are you listening to Christmas songs on the radio?"
2. People always think that you get more presents because you have an 8-day-long holiday, but in reality you get just a bunch of way cheaper presents.
3. In order to join in on the typical holiday festivities, you have to have a Christian best friend whose parents are willing to adopt you for Christmas (Shoutout to Jamie, Debra, and John).
4. There are never enough Ugly Chanukah Sweaters or anything Chanukah themed to wear at all.
5. When you want to do Secret Santa, your friends think that you wouldn't be able to participate, since you have "Chanukah Harry" instead.
6. You're forced to eat Chinese food and go to the movies on Christmas because nothing else is open.7. You can never decorate your house because there aren't enough Chanukah lights to compete with your Christian neighbors.8. You never get to decorate a real Christmas tree with your family, so you're forced to beg for a "Chanukah Bush."9. You're the only person in your friend group that cares about Chanukah, since everyone is getting ready for Christmas instead.10. Nobody, including you, knows when your holiday is because it falls on a different day every year. Christmas is December 25th no matter what, which is super easy to remember.Happy holidays, everyone!
