Being a Disney fan is a wonderful thing. It’s full of friends, happiness and magic. The trips you take are amazing and the memories are unforgettable. The movies make you cry and laugh, and they quickly become your favorites. You have a weak spot for anything with Mickey on it, and Disney songs are your jams. Cinderella’s castle is your phone background and you have a million pictures your favorite characters. But, as everyone knows, you can’t have the good without the bad, and so presented here are ten struggles of being a Disney fan:
1. For most Disney addicts, living in or near Disney is part of the dream. You can go whenever you want, on a day off of work, a day off from school, on the way to somewhere else, when you’re feeling sad, or even when you’re really in the mood to watch Festival of Fantasy, and all other valid reasons in between. Unfortunately for most, this is not the case. So that alone is heartbreaking.
2. All of your extra money goes toward Disney trips, merchandise and tickets, while prices just seem to be increasing every single time you check. Mickey’s Not So Scary and Very Merry ticket jump, anyone?
3. Every now and then, you wish that you can just cool off on a hot summer day with a Dole Whip, but realize that outside of Disney, no one even knows what a Dole Whip is. Or you really want that Nutella Fruit and Waffle Sandwich from Sleepy Hollow, and when you make it yourself it just doesn’t taste the same. Probably because it's missing the key ingredient of the magic found only in the Magic Kingdom.4. There is merchandise that will only be found in the parks, no matter where you look online. Unless of course you can afford the outrageous prices that the seller is asking for, but you might as well take another trip to Disney for that money.5. You think it should be acceptable to wear your tiara and Mickey Ears all the time.6. My personal favorite, “Aren’t you a little old for Disney?” Actually, if you knew anything about Disney at all, it was created for families with people of all ages. Aren’t you a little old to be wearing that shirt, Barbara?
7. When people say that Disneyland and Disney World are the same thing. If that’s the case, fly all the way out to California and look for the sign specifically marked “Disney World.” You’ll be looking for a little while.
8. Drooling over new things that have opened or will be opening soon at the parks, or even the new Shanghai Disney in China, because shiny, pretty, new and magical things make you very, very happy. But also, they make you really sad because you aren’t going to be there because of adult commitments like work or school. Or because a ticket to Shanghai Disneyland is more than you currently have in your bank account. (Just look at this castle!)
9. When someone you know is going to Disney, you feel excitement for them , but also sadness because it’s a reminder of how you would use all three Genie wishes to be able to go.
10. You wish that people understood that PDD (Post Disney Depression) is an actual thing.
