10 Struggles Of Being A Coffee Addict

At only 18 years old, I have declared that I am addicted to coffee. I am obsessed with espresso and those artsy drinks you see in Starbucks ads. Lattes are my forte and macchiato drinks are my happiness. After working in a café for over a year, I have learned the ins and outs of making a proper coffee or espresso drink. I cannot go a day without one. Am I ashamed to admit this? No. Should I be? Yes.

1. No coffee? No class.

Waking up late for an 8 am class and NOT being able to stop for a cup of coffee is the ultimate joy-killer. I can barely function in my math class without a cup on my desk while I work. Looks like I will be sleeping in this class.

2. New location = new disappointment.

The epitome of disappointment for a coffee lover is when your order is made wrong. Going to the same Dunkin Donuts and having them know your order and name is always helpful, but when you visit a new location and they don’t fix your drink just quite the way you want them to, it can be pretty upsetting.

3. Finding the perfect filter and angle for your tall vanilla latte.

Posting pictures of your pretty latte on Instagram is a guarantee that you will gain likes from your followers. Whenever I order a drink, I am sure to post it somewhere...if not on Instagram, then I obviously have to add a picture of it to my Snapchat story. The ultimate struggle of posting a picture of your drink is finding the “artsiest angle” of the cup. This sounds like a “basic white girl problem,” but the struggle is actually so, so real.

4. No one understands that you're a coffee pro.

No foam. You asked for no foam, but you got it anyway. You know what you want and you want it now!

5. THE RIVALRY!

Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks today? This may be the hardest decision you have to make all week.

6. So much coffee to be drunk, so little time.

You might find yourself asking how many cups will you get through the day. 1? 2? 6? Just keep the cups coming!

7. The quest to become the ultimate coffee fan.

You have a rewards card to every coffee chain in America. Got to get those gold stars and points, right?

8. Being a perfectionist.

You have so many modifications to your drink... oops!

9. Being the cranky one.

You’re not you when you're tired. You always have a cup in your hand, and your friends know you are in a better mood when you have some caffeine in your system.

10. When new baristas spell your name wrong.

You always feel embarrassed because every barista in the coffee shop knows your name and usual order, so when someone new starts working there...they better learn quick.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
