1. Art supplies are mega expensive.
Art supplies can definitely put a huge dent in your pocket especially if you aren't catching any sales. Being a college student in need of art supplies is the worst, that's when you have to start getting creative...maybe using your own blood?
2. Never being satisfied.
Even after spending hours upon hours on artworks it seems that you always want to tweak something and improve it which leads to number 3.
3. Wrecking your artwork and having to start over.
Do you ever just accidentally spill paint or ink all over a piece you've been working on for months? Now you either have to trash it and start over or let your artistic style go to work to make the accident look like a masterpiece.
4. Always being asked to draw people.
This one speaks for itself.
5. Everyone in the family expects a personalized artwork.
Making art is something we love to do and we even love making specialized gifts for the family, but when it becomes expected, the magic is lost. You now have to buy more art supplies, figure out things they like and rush to try and get them all done for a holiday or birthday. Although it's a hassle, it is awesome to see someone you care about smile.
6. Never having enough time.
Being an artist is so time consuming! You have to find the time to fit in work between your already busy schedule, especially if you need to meet deadlines, which can be incredibly stressful.
7. Beating the stigma.
For some reason a lot of people think being an artist is all fun and games, when in reality it isn't. Sure it is awesome to do something you love, but being an artist take a lot out of you. From rushing work to meet deadlines, ditching plans endlessly to get work done, pulling all-nighters... for two days straight. Being an artist is a lot of work and it takes a lot of intelligence to have an artistic eye so be proud of yourself!
8. Selling your artwork.
Customers seem to be the hardest part of being an artist. At first you have a ton of people interested in your work and it almost sells, then something comes up and that person doesn't have the money or some excuse. People also seem to have a stick up their butts about pricing because they don't understand the cost includes art supplies plus time. Oh well, you move on and there are always people looking for art. Never let the consumer base bring you down!
9. Transporting your artwork.
Moving your artwork sucks. Things crinkle, smudge, fall off, break and pretty much anything else you could think of can happen.
10. Drinking paint.
Every artist has confused their colorful paint water for a drink once in their life.
Being an artist is probably the coolest thing ever. You get to express yourself in such creative ways and it makes you unique. The best is seeing all the hard work and effort you put into your work finally pay off and if you haven't gotten there yet you will! Although your clothes are stained, your pencils are little nubs, there's no regrets.
