Curly hair comes in all different waves, loops and kinks. Many see curls as a blessing while others see it as a curse. We curlicues can't just run a brush through our hair or do a quick straighten to get ready in the morning. It takes time, lots of time, and product to tame the manes we have been blessed with. Here are just a few struggles we curly-haired girls go through all too often:

1. Brushing your hair is a whole other challenge.

In those rare moments when you do brush your curly locks, it is a painful 10 minutes of ripping, pulling and shedding resulting in a less than flattering puff ball that kind of looks like a Pomeranian.

2. In order to curl your hair, you have to straighten it first.

Because if you just go straight for the wand, it will actually make your hair straighter.

3. If it rains or is humid, your straight hair is no more.

Yes, you just spent 30plus minutes straightening your hair, but the weather had other plans.

4. Frizz.

You have to use at least one gel or other product to make your hair less frizzy and more put together.

5. You shed... a lot.

Sometimes when you brush your hair you wonder how you have any hair left on your head. You could probably make at least one wig out of all the hair that has collected in your shower, on your hair brush and formed little balls on your rug.

6. When you straighten your hair, people will always ask you if you straightened your hair.

"Did you straighten your hair?" "No, I just woke up and it was like this. I don't know how this happened, I didn't spend 45 minutes burning the ends of my hair off to get it like this though"

7. The amount of conditioner you use is shocking but necessary.

You have never used a quarter-sized glob of conditioner in your entire life.

8. Lil' baby dreadlocks.

You reach back to put on a necklace or unzip your dress and your hand gets caught on something, oh wait, that is just a tiny knot in your hair that you will need to spend the next 10 minutes pulling apart. "Lil' baby dreadlocks" as I like to call them are your worst nightmare and most common occurrence.

9. A good hair day is really good... but a bad hair day is really bad.

When you wake up after washing your hair and it turns out fabulous, it is not only a small miracle, it also means you will have a day as great as your hair looks. More often than not though, you wake up looking a little something like this and spend a good portion of your morning figuring out how to tame this beast so you can leave the house.

10. People often ask you how your got your hair like that.

Despite all the struggles of every day curly life, you love your curls and are thankful that they give you a little extra spice.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
