Can I get a whispered "holla" from all the quiet people out there? Trust me, there are a lot. Either you yourself are a quiet person, or you know one. While it may not be obvious to all the people who speak at a normal volume, quiet people deal with a lot of personal blows in a given day. Throughout our whole lives, we've been told to "speak up," but it's just not in our nature. Don't get us wrong, we can turn up the volume when we really need to. Although, why waste energy just to speak louder? Here are ten struggles that quiet people deal with:
1. Being asked to repeat yourself all the time.
Once is fine. Twice, you feel annoyed but oblige. Three times or more, you start feeling like a broken record.
2. Saying the answer to a question in class, but the teacher doesn't hear you.
And then some jerk who did hear you steals the answer.
3. Feeling left out of conversations.
You start out contributing, but people just continue to talk over you. Guess you'll just sit back and go on your phone instead.4. Public speaking.
"Could you speak up a little bit?" I'm-I'm already screaming, I don't know how to get any louder than this.
5. When people assume you're shy because you're quiet.
Nope. I'm just not very loud.
6. When people assume you're introverted.
Actually, I love being around people and talking to them. Don't believe the stereotypes, kids.
7. People think you're judgmental.
8. Meeting new people is hard.
Friends have become so used to your soft voice that you forget you have to speak up for other people.
9. People who talk really loud can be difficult to get along with.
It's easy to be overwhelmed by someone who always talks over you. Find your inside voice, man.
10. Interviews can be a nightmare.
No thanks, I'd rather be broke.
