With millions of published books, the seems to be endless options for anyone who loves to read. From Sylvia Plath to Steven King, there is a tremendous variety for all people with different tastes. But, if you love to read as much as I do, you understand that there are some "downsides" to having a great affinity for reading.

1. There is no such thing as owning "too many" books.

Even though there are books lining every inch of your bedroom walls, there is always space for just one more.

2. It's impossible to pass a Barnes & Noble without going inside.

You may promise yourself that you're "only going to look" and that you'll "only be five minutes," but, we both know that's not true.

3. You get attached to the lives of your favorite characters.

If they die, you see it as a personal attack from the author.

4. You're always wary to see a movie based on your favorite books.

What if the movie isn't nearly as good as the book? What if they get the characters completely wrong? There's just too much to risk.

5. The wait for the release of a sequel to your favorite series seems to drag on forever.

At this point, it doesn't have to be perfect. I just need to know what happens next.

6. You always have a book handy in case of an emergency.

At the beach? Taking the train? Trying to ignore someone? There's always a book for that.

7. Most of your money is spent on buying books.

Saving money becomes really difficult when you have no self control in a bookstore.

8. Finishing a great book always makes you sad.

The only things that can repair that small hole in your heart is either discovering a great, new book or just having a nice cry.

9. You take it personally when someone doesn't like one of your favorite books.

You'll politely smile and nod at their opinion and acknowledge its existence, even though you know they're wrong.

10. You've considered becoming an English major just to have an excuse to read as many books as you want without being judged.

I know I won't make that much money but, I get to read. So, is it really that much of a dilemma?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
