10 Struggles All GCSU Students Understand

Chances are, if you attend Georgia College, you love it here. We have a beautiful campus full of friendly faces. There's plenty of ways to get involved- whether it's greek life, intramurals, or one of the various clubs offered. However, there are some universal struggles that all GCSU students can relate to:

1. It is impossible to walk outside at night without seeing a cockroach

The cockroaches out on the sidewalks used to gross me out so much. Now? They don't even phase me (okay maybe a little).

2. The arm workout you get when the handicap button on the doors are broken

Let's be real here, those doors are so heavy. Sorry to all the people behind me who I couldn't hold the door open for.

3. "Wait, you go to Georgia State right?"

It's GCSU not GSU!

4. Better yet, no one knows where your school is

"Where's that?", "Milledgeville", "Where's that??" Come on people, it used to be the old state capitol!

5. Your chance of finding an open study room is equivalent to winning the lottery

I am not exaggerating, it is actually impossible to find a study room that is free. Bonus points for the later you get into the semester.

6. The strict dress code of the Wellness Center

What do you mean I can't wear a tank top?

7. The limited number of washers and dryers in the dorms

If you plan to do your laundry on a Sunday, then forget it. All four washers are probably full again!

8. When you want to go shopping but your best option is the small

Okay so do you want to go to Rue 21 or TJ Maxx?

9. Finding a decent parking spot is impossible

Yes, I just walked half a mile from my car. No, there weren't any other spaces.

10. Trying to get to your class in A&S without being handed a million flyers

Yes, your event sounds very cool but I'm running late to class right now.

At the end of the day, we still love GCSU and are proud to call ourselves a bobcat despite some of its struggles.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
