Summer is going by fast. It's the sad reality as July passes, and if you and some good friends need some cheap, last-minute adventure ideas, look no further than your own backyard. Before heading back to school, check out some beautiful state parks. Just be sure to bring the bug-spray.

10. Parfrey’s Glen State Natural Area

Located within Baraboo’s Devil’s Lake State Park, Parfrey’s Glen holds a hidden gem that is a breathtaking hike into lush greenery. Through the trail a small gorge follows a small creek with breathtaking rock formations that make even the most master of hikers take a moment to enjoy the view.

9. Hemlock Draw Natural Area

Located in North Freedom, Wisconsin, the natural area is settled around Honey Creek. Filled with beautiful wildflowers and large prairie trails, Hemlock Draw has a serene view any hiker will like.

8. Wildcat Mountain

A hilly but breathtaking overlook of Wisconsin farmlands is what Wildcat Mountain is made for. With trails that navigate around the park and through beautiful woods, Wildcat is perfect in both summer and winter months.

7. Gibraltar Rock State Park

True to the beautiful scenery of the Wisconsin Dells, Gibraltar Rock is nestled beyond Devil’s Lake. A bit of a challenge for novice hikers, the cliff-sides and serene country scenes are perfect reasons to visit.

6. Natural Bridge State Park

A small area with an adventurous rock bridge is a perfect little place to enjoy a Wisconsin summer or fall day. A simple park with interesting trails give you the perfect place to enjoy a sunset.

5. Muir Park

A Nature Preserve in honor of the late naturalist, John Muir, the beautiful preserve is a scene of old prairie lands. The old trails gives a small glimpse back of what the Midwest was infamous for.

4. Point Beach State Forest

Settled in front of Lake Michigan, the forest features numerous trails, sandy beaches and a historic lighthouse. The park features a camping area among other small amenities to make a trip last as long as you want.

3. Mirror Lake State Park

A Large park located near Baraboo is a popular canoeing spot. The beautiful cliffs and bluffs overlook Mirror Lake. The park also features hiking trails that any hiker, whether experienced or just starting can handle.

2. Devil’s Nose State Park

This park features beautiful meadows, forests and bluffs that any hiker or adventure-seeker can appreciate. Home to numerous plant life and extensive wilderness, the Devil’s Nose State Park promises an adventure.

1.Devil’s Lake State Park

The most prominent of Baraboo’s Natural Parks. It features beaches, rocky hill sides and beautiful cliffs that gives you an incredible view of the entire park. Popular with families and small groups, the rocks make a natural play-ground for adults and trails that give you the perfect view of nature at every angle.
