It is that point in the semester where mid-terms are starting to creep on every college student. For most of us, spring break is right around the corner, and the thought of doing absolutely nothing for an entire week sounds like true bliss. But there is only one thing standing in the way of moving from my bed to my couch for 7 days straight- mid-year exams. The thought of having to go through multiple presentations, large papers, group projects, and staying up until 2AM to cram as much information into your brain about polynomials, makes any student want to cry. Here are 10 stages students go through during mid-year exams week:

1. Motivation

You've had it marked on your calendar since syllabus week when all of your mid-year exams are. You're note-taking is impeccable and you have been keeping up with every assignment that has been given to you thus far. You have created a studying schedule so you make sure you are keeping up with the correct material that will be on the exam, and you feel like you are going to crush the first exam!

2. Group studying

You and a group of classmates decide it would be most efficient to come together and find a time to study together. This is the perfect time to ask each other questions and make even make different forms of study guides to help each other out. Group studying is beneficial for many reasons, but one major one: procrastination ends. Once you are forced to study around other people, their motivation can help you stop procrastinating and get some study time in.

3. Pre-procrastination

While you are trying to keep your motivation strong and the studying seems to be going well, you are starting to realize how much you have to do in such a short amount of time. The anxiety of taking exams, presenting projects, on top of regular school work is daunting, but you are trying to stay positive as much as possible.

4. Denial

While the work is continuing to pile up and due dates are slowly approaching, you can't get yourself to actually sit down and write that paper or open your notebook to review last week's notes. You keep telling yourself that you have plenty of time to finish the work that is ahead of you, but in reality, all of those due dates and exams are quickly approaching.

5. Crying and/or screaming

With those deadlines still quickly approaching, it is coming to a point where the workload is just piling up to a point where you don't even know where to begin. On top of regular school work that your professors expect you to complete on studying for their mid-year exam, you just want to cry, scream, and maybe give up.

6. Questioning whether or not dropping out is an option

You start to ask yourself if you will be able to support yourself if you drop out of school. Will you really need this degree? Maybe working at a grocery story or working in retail is enough to support you. If you leave now, your student loan debt won't be so high. Is the degree really worth all of this stress?

7. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

You realize after your breakdown that all the stress is not worth it and you will be able to make it through the week. I hate to say it, but you need to have a few Beyonce moments in order to make it through the end of the week. You have to think about your future and think about how going through this one difficult week will lead to an amazing career and hopefully a paycheck!

8. Finally understanding something on your study guide

In the final stages of studying before taking the exam, things start to click in your brain. After all the time spent reading, rereading things, and going over every classwork assignment that has been given so far, everything is finally starting to make sense. Finally, the motivation starts to kick back in and you are in the final stretch mid-terms work.

9. Watching students go into an exam before you

Their time has come before you to take on the horrifying job of completing their mid-year exam. While you wish them as much luck as possible, you can't help but feel a little happy. This means you have a few extra hours, days etc. to study, but you can also use them as another way to study.

10. You're finished!

You have just walked out of your last mid-year exam and (hopefully) you can enjoy your spring break without having to worry about any type of school work for an entire week. You have gone through ups and downs making it to the end of the week and all of that hard work was worth it. You can finally relax, hang out with your friends, and not think about stepping onto campus for a full week. Now, that may not seem like a very long time, but hey, seven days is better than nothing!

While mid-year exams may be very stressful for every college student out there, just know most mid-year exams only last 1 week. That 1 week may seem like the longest week in history, but know that you'll get through it, even if you have multiple breakdowns. Just know that there is a light at the end of the dark week you are entering at the beginning of mid-year exams.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.
