The Disney College Program is something people dream of doing when they are in school. Here is a list of what happens while you go through the application process and start working with them.
1) Applications become available.
This is it. It’s the day you’ve been waiting for for weeks, months, maybe even years. If you’re like me, when the applications come out, you can’t really contain your excitement. Immediately you apply and the wait begins.
2) The phone interview.
The phone interview is the big one. This is the call that could change your life and you're freaking out. You've done your research but let's be honest, nothing can really calm your nerves until you actually start the interview and realize that they are actually the nicest people ever!
3) Waiting.
So close, yet so far, the wait is the worst. Whether it's a week or a month, it always seems like eternity. Every email you get could be the one and with each wave of acceptances your hope dwindles a little more.
4) Getting accepted!
When you get the letter it doesn't matter where you are, you're excitement can't really be explained. To the ones who have just applied, my best advice is to wait until you're out of class or work because you're bound to lose your cool.
5) More waiting.
Depending on when you begin your program and if you're in an advantage program or not, you still have quite a bit of waiting to do before you actually get to move in. This has a tendency to seem like an even longer eternity.
6) It begins!
The time is here for you to finally move to Orlando/Anaheim and nothing can stand in the way of your dreams now!
7) Doing everything as perfect as you can.
In the first couple of months you feel unstoppable. You will probably try to do every little thing right and make sure that you never get a single point because goodness knows that your rep with the company has to stay perfect. I'll tell you now that yes, you should try to do well, but Disney knows we're humans too so don't get too stressed over that half point from being late.
8) Being Homesick
This doesn't happen to everyone but I think most of us go through a phase where we really start to miss our families and friends. It's natural.
9) Questioning if this is really what you should be doing.
Another one that not everyone goes through, but sometimes after 40-50 hour work weeks and piles of homework it can seem like a bit much. You see pictures of your friends at football games and family spending time together and you just start to question if you should even be so far away from home.
10) Realizing, once again, that this is where you're meant to be.
Because, don't forget, this is an opportunity that some people would do anything to have. You're building your resume immensely by adding a fortune 500 company and learning work skills that will benefit you in the rest of your career, whether it's with Disney or with another company. Not to mention, you are a part of making incredible memories for thousands of people over the course of your program.
