So, you’ve selected a special someone to be your Valentine, you’ve made dinner reservations for a reasonable restaurant, you’ve got the chocolates and you’ve got the teddy bear; if you’re clever you got some flowers too. Everything is squared away for your Valentine’s Date, right??? WRONG! You’re missing a vital component to the Valentine’s Day equation, you’re forgetting the… Soundtrack. Whether you’re spending V-Day at home or you’re in the car riding to make-out point; you need a steamy playlist to get the mood right, and lucky for you Dr. Ky has you covered. This playlist will get you started so all you’ve got to do is finish.
1. "Sara Smile" by Hall and Oats
In 1976 when this song was released, the name Sarah was ranked number 15 on the list for most popular female baby names… That fact alone should speak to this song’s credibility. The sensual melodies of this song will transport you and your lover back to the 70’s, and quite frankly you will want to stay there.
2. "Pink Matter" by Frank Ocean ft. Andre 3000
Frank Ocean is a ballad master that puts his heart and soul into every track, any of his songs would be perfect for Valentine’s Day. I choose this one specifically because of the Andre 3000 feature and the way the instrumental glides through your ears ever so smoothly. Frank Ocean is most definitely a descendant of Aphrodite.
3. "Flesh" by Miguel
Are you and your significant other going to see “Fifty Shades Darker” this Valentine’s Day? If so, then this song is for you. This song will make you want to sin and at the end of the day, isn’t that what Valentine’s Day is all about?
4. "Come and See Me" by PARTYNEXTDOOR ft. Drake
For me, this song was an interesting choice. The song itself is not romantic in the slightest. However, Drake knows how to make all his words sound romantic. This song will not sound out of place if you don’t listen to the words too hard.
5. "Just the Two of Us" by Grover Washington ft. Bill Withers
This oldie is for the couples that are going through hard times and are considering taking some time off. If that is you then I am challenging you to sit down, listen to this song, and ask yourself if a break up is what you want. Try and work out your problems, if they aren’t too unhealthy, and let the power of music soothe you and your lover’s spirits.
6. "Close to You" by Dreezy ft. T-Pain
This selection is a good start for all couples. At its heart, “Close to You,” is a cliché love song that sounds like the beginning of a wild night on the town. It’s not too in your face about love, but it’s also not too pretentious with the message. Dreezy and T-Pain just want to have fun, and they think you should too.
7. "Caretaker" by D.R.A.M ft. SZA
Most know D.R.A.M for his song “Broccoli” ft. Lil Yachty, but this song is a little more sophisticated if I do say so myself. “Caretaker” is for those lovers that feel like they must do everything in the relationship. Take this Valentine’s Day off and let your significant other take care of you… D.R.A.M will help them.
8. "If You Let Me" by Sinead Harnett
One of my personal favorites on this list, “If You Let Me” will have you feeling vulnerable from start to finish. It will help you share some of those insecurities you may be having within your relationship. You may or you may not cry, but it’s all in the name of love.
9. "Warm Enough" by Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment
This song is for the lovers that feel like they don’t deserve to be loved. I understand your struggle 100%, but there’s no need to be afraid. Although you don’t think you can be loved, who are you to say that someone doesn’t love you? Stop doubting and let your significant other prove their love to you, you’ll thank me later.
10. "Electric Relaxation" by A Tribe Called Quest
This song is mesmerizing and it takes you on a galactic journey through love and makes you feel warm all over. Q-Tip and Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest exchange verse almost instinctually making this song flow smoothly throughout. Once it is over you won’t be able to help but play it back.
Alright well there you have it. Fresh jams prescribed by Dr. Ky himself. If these don’t get your Valentine’s Day started off right, then I don’t know what will.
