10 Old Songs That Will Make You Instantly Happier

Music is one of my most favorite things in the world. It has so much to offer and is capable of bringing out so many emotions that are deep inside of us. Music can bring us comfort in times of trouble and it can empower us in times of heartache and most importantly it can make us happy! I don't know about you, but as a college student sometimes I am just in need of a mood booster. With endless homework, miles of studying and papers to write, music is often something I run to for motivation to keep going when things get tough and I feel burnt out. So, I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite, "mood boosting" songs, especially for those out there in need of an occasional happy dance like me! These songs may appear to come from an older generation but believe me, give them a chance.

1. "KISS" by Prince

I grew up listening to this song and singing it with my mom. Prince is SO talented (7 Grammy's, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and #27 on the list of 100 greatest rock and roll artist of all time.) He combines so many elements of music into his overall sound which makes for an exciting journey when listening to him. Take a listen to this song, (or my other favorite which is "I wanna be your lover") And you are sure to be dancing and singing along in no time.

2. "Pretty Young Thing (PYT)" by Michael Jackson

This is my FAVORITE Michael song. I think its impossible to listen to any of his music without wanting to dance. And with this one, its impossible not to want to chime in and sing...especially on that bridge. "Pretty Young Thing, repeat after me, sing na na na." Sigh...if only he were still with us. R.I.P Michael.

3. "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" by Stevie Wonder

My favorite Stevie song. I have so much respect for him. He's been in the music business since he was eleven years old! I love this song because obviously..it makes you want to dance, but I also love it because he's telling her that no matter the things he's done in his life, he's totally hers. How romantic and sweet is that!

4. "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" by The Temptations

I first heard this song on Remember The Titans when Louie starts belting it out in front of the whole team. I had already heard "My Girl" by the Temptations but this song made me feel a much different way. I love how he's boldy declaring, "Hey, I ain't too proud to beg for your love because you mean that much to me." It's so honest and the catchy. I just love it.

5. Three Little Birds by: Bob Marley

This song is perfect for those days when you just need the simple reminder of "hey, everything is gonna be okay!" Don't worry. Don't Fret. Enjoy life and find comfort in the fact that life is beautiful and in the end, it's all gonna be alright.

6. "Jack and Diane" by John (Cougar) Mellencamp

A timeless classic for all those rock lovers out there like me. I love the story that this song tells. And you can't go wrong with the chorus! It's actually kind of deep. "Oh yeah, life goes on. Long after the thrill, of livin' is gone"

7. "More Than A Feeling" by Boston

Does anyone ever secretly wish they would've been a part of the 70's hair band era? I do. This song provides the perfect head banging melody that will take you all the way back to what seems like a much cooler time in history. Also..prepare to be amazed by Tom Scholz's vocal range!

8. "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers

How can you NOT love this one? My seventh grade English teacher used to play it for us all the time while we were doing our work. It's SO encouraging and motivational and uplifting. I love it so much.

9. "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5

"OOh baby give me one more chaaaance.." This song should always be included on every "happy song" playlist. Michael Jackson was only 7 when he began singing with his siblings yet he not only displayed such talent but such an ability to connect with the lyrics as well! I can't help but sing and dance along with him during this song.

10. "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega

I've loved this song every since I was younger. Can't go wrong with the horn section in the background and the catchy (yet strange) chorus.. This song is sure to make you happy and want to get up and snap your fingers.

Happy Listening!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
