10 Simple Ways to Get Over a Breakup

For the record, any romantic relationship can be held with the utmost seriousness, no matter how long said relationship lasted. Whether it was a month of dating or a twenty year marriage, your heart could suffer some form of emotional damage from a break up. The following are some methods that anyone can utilize in order to begin the healing process for whatever they face after a painful split between themselves and their partner.

1. Get in touch with the world around you.

Ideally, this would not mean through social media and checking out the latest gossip with Hollywood couples. Take a walk. Go to a park, and smell the flowers growing around you. Find some shade under a tall tree and relax with nature. The world is a beautiful place, and taking all of that in, is quite a beautiful feeling.

2. Shop 'til you drop.

Maybe not until you legitimately drop, but retail therapy is a pretty great thing. You can treat yourself to whatever it may be that you want. New clothes? Buy them. New phone case? Get it. Whatever it may be, its important that it makes you happy that you got it. Just as a warning, try not to blow through the whole savings account.

3. Eat. Eat. Eat.

Contrary to popular belief, eating after a break up does not mean you are eating out of a depression. But good food can really brighten your mood. Try out that new restaurant you've been dying to go to.

4. Listen to music.

This does not necessarily mean sad music that makes you think of your ex or matches your mood. Try venturing through a new playlist. Hear the sounds of a new artist or genre and let it sweep you off your feet. Find a happy place in what you could consider a new world.

5. Pick up a hobby.

Try something new and out of your comfort zone. Maybe channel your feelings into a form of art. Try a recreational sport. Read a book. The more time you invest in something new, the less time you have to worry about the past.

6. Excel in your work.

Aside from hobbies, you can also delve all of the emotion into your job. Your hard work and determination in what you are getting paid to do may in fact be noticed, and you may be given more promising opportunities in your future.

7. Switch up your style.

This meaning, maybe change something about your style that you normally wouldn't. Add some color to your hair. Get a piercing you never thought you'd like, but come to find out you rock like no other. Expression is a great way to release positive vibes.

8. Start a workout routine.

Not everyone likes to workout. Sweating is gross, I get it. As much as you hate the idea of it mid-workout, you'll love the end result, and it releases endorphins. Besides, it feels great to look even better when you get over someone.

9. Find comfort in animals.

Whether they be dogs, cats, birds, mice, reptiles, or fish, animals are great. Even if they aren't your own (get permission from owners before cuddling up to an unfamiliar animal though.) Even if it's just a simple "hello" to a passing pup on the sidewalk, they'll most likely lift your spirits.

10. Spend some time with loved ones.

Although you may not always see eye to eye with them, your family should always be there to help ease the pain or grief of a breakup. Some quality time could make your world brighten up a bit more if you let it. If anything, your friends are also great candidates for times like these. None of them should want you feeling blue, so open up to them and let them help you feel better.

All in all, as hard as breakups may be, you can find ways to help you resolve the feelings you have in positive ways. So what if you don't get yourself back in the dating scene for a little while? You might as well enjoy yourself in the meantime.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
