10 Signs You're A Writer

You know these all too well.

10 Signs You're A Writer

One of the greatest things about writing is that absolutely anyone can do it. However, only certain people develop a deeper love for it than others.

Writing becomes something entirely different for those that make it into a career or hobby, letting it feed their souls with each and every word they put onto the page.

Many people think writers are some of the most creative people in the world, which is true. But being a creative genius isn't the only attribute that writers have in common. Here's a list of 10 things that prove you're a writer:

1. It actually hurts you when people don't know correct grammar or spelling

For some reason, people can graduate from college with degrees in medicine or engineering, but they still don't know the difference between "to" and "too," or "they're," "there" and "their." In fact, you're probably that friend always correcting your friends' grammar and spelling. They may get annoyed now, but they'll thank you someday.

2. You're the worst procrastinator you've ever met

You may be a good writer, but starting a paper is one of the hardest things for you to do. Sometimes it's because you have no ideas, and other times it can be because the assignment seems impossible. Either way, you'll probably put it off until the last minute and then take a three-hour break, after writing only the first couple of sentences on the page.

3. When you see all the writing classes at your school, you get really excited

Being a writer means you can also be a total nerd at times. For example, when you see it's time to sign up for classes, it actually hurts that you can't take all of the writing courses. In fact, you probably hate that too many courses are offered because that means you won't be able to take them all unless, of course, you don't want to graduate on time. It's just not fair.

4. You are a perfectionist when it comes to your work

It's impossible for you to submit your paper, article, etc., without having perfected it everything just right. That means you will re-read every sentence multiple times and then read it to anyone in the same room as you that is willing to listen, but it still won't seem like enough. Even after publication, you will be thinking of all the things you should have added or left out. You just can't help it, no matter how hard you try. When it comes to your writing, everything has to be perfect.

5. There's no feeling like getting published

At the end of the day, when you see your name in that published piece or byline, no feeling will ever compare.

6. You can't stop coming up with new, creative ideas

Whether you're on the treadmill at the gym, in the shower, or having a random conversation with your friends, you're constantly coming up with new ideas for what you're going to write about. The ideas won't stop flowing through you, and yes, they will most likely continue to come to you at the most random times because that's just the way it always seems to work.

7. Coffee has come to your rescue more times than you can count

We all get some of our best ideas late at night. Unfortunately, that's also when we are supposed to be getting some sleep. Luckily for us writers, coffee can help in meeting those deadlines, though. Coffee, now. Sleep, later.

8. Even when you write things last minute, you somehow do great on those assignments

Sometimes the only skill you need in an assignment is to be a good writer. It doesn't matter what the content is, because even if you have no idea what you're saying, if you can make it sound good, that can be enough to get you an A.

9. People always ask you if you're going to write a book

Not every writer wants to write a book, although that's always the first thing people seem to ask you. Even though it's probably not what you want to do right now, it's always an option because being the next Ernest Hemingway or Harper Lee has a nice ring to it.

10. When you think of your future career, you couldn't be more excited

If Buddy the Elf isn't you when you think about becoming a professional writer, it's time to think of a new profession.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
