Families are all different in their own unique and quirky ways. Every member of every family plays a different role in what is often (at least for me) a humorous dynamic. If you're part of a big family like me, you know that with all the love and laughs come a few struggles.
1. There are shoes. Everywhere.
No matter how many times your mom tells everyone to put their shoes away, they somehow all still end up getting kicked off just outside the shoe closet. The collection usually ranges from sneakers and flip flops to muddy cleats.
2. You have to hide your favorite foods.
Being part of a large family means you are automatically protective of your food, and this rule is especially applicable if you have a brother. During Girl Scout cookie season, it is guaranteed everyone is hiding a sleeve or two in their room.
3. Someone always cries when you try to take the family holiday card photo.
"We are not leaving until everyone smiles!" is what your mom usually shouts while you and your siblings all try to smile in the mid-December cold because we waited until the last minute.
4. At some point you've been forced to share a room.
You're probably still bitter about it, but in the end it brought you closer.
5. Going out together as a family usually turns into a giant cluster.
Whether it's a family vacation or just going out to dinner, things can get a little crazy. Keep calm and attempt to do things as a family.
6. Someone is always leaving an empty box in the pantry.
Could we just throw it away so as not to crush the dreams of another family member who thinks there is one more pack of gummies left?
7. Your mom forgets your name and goes through the whole list of family members, including the dog, until she gets to you.
Whatever your name is.
8. Your family is always there to make you laugh.
When you're having a bad day, you can always count on your family to cheer you up.
9. And you always have each other's backs.
Family squad.
10. You wouldn't trade your big family for anything.
Sometimes having a big family can get pretty hectic. Between the constant come and go and lack of privacy you might be wanting some peace and quiet. It's funny though, because on those rare occasions that you have the house to yourself, you find yourself wishing that the house was filled with the people you love the most who make your house a home.
