As I'm reflecting over my long and wonderful 18 years alive while residing in Saginaw, I can only imagine that many other "Saginawians," 21,257 of them to be exact, have had these recurring thoughts about our small town along side me. Here are a few signs you live or have ever lived in our beautiful, yet small, town, Saginaw, also referred to as "Sagnasty."
1. Every single high school sporting event was sponsored by Taco Casa.
And we can never get enough of sugar water known as sweet tea, along with yellow goo on our chips.
2. The Saginaw Recreation Center Planet Kidz was the place to be on Saturday nights starting at 7 p.m. going through 11 p.m.
But only if you were in elementary or middle school - otherwise, you weren't welcome there. And lets be honest, it prepared us for any college party in the future.
3. The Boswell vs. Saginaw football game was basically the super bowl, the side you sit makes or breaks friendships.
Even Chisholm students buy tickets.
4. Trains, they're everywhere.
Where are they coming from, where are they going but most importantly, why are they here? Heaven forbid you get stuck behind one of them, we all are rooting for you to cross the tracks someday.
5. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony in front of the recreation center is the Whoville of celebrations.
With just a smaller tree. Like, way smaller. If you don't show up, do you even live in Saginaw?
6. Big green train, also used as a landmark when giving directions to Saginaw natives.
Located in willow creek park, but don't be checking it out past 11 p.m. or you'll have a nice chat with the Saginaw Police Department.
7. If you can't find your kids after a high school football game, you can most likely look inside of Whataburger.
No matter the score outcome, that's where they're hanging out.
8. Officer Joe's retirement was the most bittersweet thing we have overcome as a town.
We will miss those waves, Officer Joe!
9. The grain factory, basically the sign you're almost home.
But will we ever find out if the old horror stories we heard in elementary school are true or not?
10. We're all one big happy family.
But really, you're probably related to half of the people that live in Saginaw, somehow, someway.
Even throughout all of the train echoes, overly dimmed street lights, Saginaw Main 5 p.m. traffic and of course the 20 mph speed limits, we can't see ourselves living anywhere else. Unless you're a teenager. In that case, you probably hate it here.
