The small-town-turned City of Progress is where I call home. I am so happy that I was raised in a city thriving off of community interaction and the connection each citizen has to another. Many fellow Enterprisians will agree that we are all proud of this place we call home and can not imagine growing up any place else. Here are some signs you know to be true if you're from Enterprise, Alabama.

1. When someone asks where you're from, you have to name the surrounding cities.

"I live 30 minutes from Dothan, about an hour from Montgomery, 3 hours from Birmingham, an hour and a half from Panama City Beach and 2 hours from Auburn. We also have an army base next door if you have heard of Fort Rucker."

2. When asked for a fun fact, your response is proudly, "My hometown is the only place that has a monument dedicated to an agricultural pest!"

People do not understand our respect and love for the Boll Weevil, this is when we pull up Google and explain the whole story of our town. AND we are probably the only people in a classroom who know what an actual Boll Weevil looks like.

3. You are surprised when people tell you their rival high school was only five minutes away.

"Yeah, our rival was in the next town over... 30 minutes away. Northview. *shudders at name*"

4. You have an undeniable sense of smell for peanuts.

"Is that dog food...nope just the Peanut Mill!"

5. Your friends are surprised by your knowledge of football.

"Oh sorry, that's all we did on Friday nights, our entire city shuts down for games. Friday night football is a big deal"

6. Your sense of direction is based around the circle AND only Enterprise's circle, Dothan's circle is a completely different story.

Traveler: "Excuse me, how do I get to _____."

Enterprise Citizen: "Oh yeah, I think that's on the other side of the circle near Geneva Highway."

7. We don't refer to different businesses as "which one," rather we say "The one," because we only have one of each.

Me: Meet me at Mcdonalds

Friend from big city: Which one

Me: The only one

8. Traffic lights are a nuisance.

If you catch more than one light, it'll increase your trip around town to 10 minutes.

9. You can find entertainment anywhere you go.

Nothing to do? That's okay just drive around the town, find some creepy old back road to explore, play cards and get really good at it, talk to someone, or walk around a store and find things you wish you could buy. With little to do in Enterprise, you entertain yourself with crazy ways and make the most memorable memories out of it.

10. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.

This phrase will forever be engrained into your head. The support each member of our community gives to one another is inspiring. Near or far, wherever you are, Enterprise is always home.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
