10 Signs You're An English Major

Staying up until 2 a.m. is a weekly occurrence, because that seven-page paper isn't going to write itself. The nightly reading is enough to drive you insane, but at the end of the day you would go crazy without it. People who majored in science or math think that majoring in English is a joke, but if they new the amount of work we have on a daily basis they, would think differently. Sure, we complain about the amount of books we have to buy, all the papers we have to write, and the endless amount of pages we read, but almost all english majors are passionate about their field of study.

1. Books galore

There is no such thing as not having a book for a course. Oh, and with Lit courses, get ready to empty your bank account.

2. Reading

It starts day one: "Read this book and be able to talk in detail about everything by next class."

3. Correcting peoples texting

You're= You are. Your= possessive. They're= they are. Their= possessive. There=place. It's really not that difficult!

4. Papers

Every week. Every class. Good thing we're good at making things up.

5. Everyone asks you to edit their papers

This is the absolute worst. I don't have time to edit my papers, so what makes you think I have time for yours?

6. FUN reading

I always have four or more books that I'm reading, on top of school readings.

7. Science and math are terrifying.

I have waited two years to take the second part of biology, and I'm scared out of my mind. I couldn't tell you anything about these subjects, but if you need help with Shakespeare I'm here.

8. Everyone asks you how you're going to use your degree.

If you aren't going to teach, people thing you're crazy.

9. You refuse to retweet or share anything with grammar errors.

Why look stupid when you could just write it correctly yourself.

10. MLA has been drilled into your head

Forget Chicago and APA, MLA is all I know.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
