If your best friend lives a few miles away, a thousand miles away or continents away, you know the struggle of missing them. Here are just a few things to confirm that you and your best friend have a bittersweet long distance relationship.

1. The reunion is the best part.

Whenever you and your best friend go months or even years without seeing each other, it makes the next time you get to hang out or have a Skype date with them the best. Nothing beats seeing your long-distance best friend.

2. You never run out of things to talk about.

When finally reunited, it’s been so long since your last sit down conversation. The moment you two actually get to sit down and catch up, you could go on for hours. You have enough material to eliminate any sort of awkward silence.

3. You stock up on pictures together.

You never know when the next time is that you’ll be able to see each other again, so any opportunity you get to snap a quick selfie, or even a full body picture, you take it. Your hometown friends are basically photographers for the week.

4. You get to vent about everyone without worrying that what you say will leave their mouth.

Your long-distance friend most likely doesn’t know any of the people you’re talking about while venting, so it’s safe to say almost anything. It’s nice to know that what you’re saying is shared with a confidant.

5. You get to visit fun and cool places that you otherwise wouldn’t without your long-distance best friend.

In my case, Ohio. Who would randomly plan a trip to Ohio just because? I would, just so I could see my best friend. If it wasn’t for her, I probably would have had no desire to take a trip up to Dayton at least once a year.

6. You love explaining how you two met.

In my case, our situation is very funny. Most people are always curious how you have a best friend who lives hundreds and hundreds of miles away from you. Most of the time you have to take turns explaining the entire story because it’s such a frequent question.

7. You get to make new friends who you wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for your best friend.

Let’s face it, you have at least 10 Instagram followers from your best friend’s state. You don’t know how they found you, but you can assume it was through your best friend's tagged pictures.

8. You love sending birthday and Christmas gifts through the mail.

There is no better feeling than knowing that your best friend will be receiving a gift from you in three to five business days.

9. You have a second family.

You feel super comfortable with their family almost as if you were their own - they basically consider you as their “other child."

10. You will always have a special place for them in your heart.

Nothing beats having a long distance best friend. The visits are short, but the moments are sweet. You still wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
