The South is known for many things, from sweet tea to southern accents. But, most importantly, we are known as the “Bible Belt.” Christianity thrives here. Families and friends can come together to share their love for one another and their powerful God. Growing up in a Christian family made me the person who I am today. If you can remember taking part in these 10 things, you definitely grew up in a Christian household.
1. Praying before you eat.
Whether you’re at home or at Cracker Barrel, you better not start eating your macaroni and cheese before your Grandpa says the blessing.
2. Getting up for church—no matter what.
If you stayed out too late at a friend’s house or your throat is sore, you better suck it up. Mom will not take no for an answer. You’re going to church.
3. Spending at least one week of each summer at revival.
You can forget making any plans for that one solid week. You’ll be at church each night ready to be revived and see God’s grace work in action.
4. Reading the Bible.
I still remember the times my family all took turns reading Bible verses. There still is nothing better than finding a great verse.5. Eating Sunday dinner every weekend.
After church, it's time to head to Grandma's house for some fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
6. Over thinking about all the consequences before making a bad decision.
You might find yourself asking the question "What Would Jesus Do?"
7. Hearing the phrase "bless your heart" every day.
You fell off your bike? Bless your heart. Your life is a mess? Bless your heart.
8. Picking out the perfect Easter outfit each year.
This holiday celebrates Jesus Christ rising and is one of the most important days of the year. You have to look good.
9. Making all your friends at church.
At least you are guaranteed to have someone to sit with at each service.
10. Knowing you have a home in Heaven waiting for you one day.
The best feeling you will ever have is knowing God has saved your soul, and you'll have eternal life in Heaven.
So while it was sometimes hard to get up for church every Sunday and make good, responsible decisions, I would not trade my upbringing in a Christian family for anything. Nothing will ever compare to a good dose of the holy spirit and southern comfort food on Sunday.
