Anyone who lives in Urbana-Champaign and goes to the University of Illinois has a lot more than just studying at the same college in common. Here are 10 things that will sound very familiar to all my 44,087 close classmates:
1. You own an excessive amount of flannels
Whether it be for a barn dance at Farm Lake or Saturday mornings, you must have a large selection of flannels to sport.
2. You have never been to a football game, but know how to have fun at block
Though U of I is outstanding in many areas, the football field has not traditionally been one of them. But, of course, the students here don't let that ruin any of the fun of "tailgating" Saturday morning--or as we like to call it, Block.
3. You go out more during the week than on the weekends
Unlike most other schools, U of I has reasons for it's students to go out every night of the week. Yet we still manage to remain superb in academics. Very impressive.
4. You are very good at directions
You basically have to walk everywhere or take the bus. Given the large campus size, this makes you very oriented and keen to directions.
5. You can pull off Orange and Blue better than anyone
Orange may not be a crowd pleaser, but you have mastered to work it into your outfits flawlessly.
6. You are probably sick
Due to high levels of stress and getting close to no sleep, U of I students are sick 90 percent of the time. McKinley doesn't help with this, either.
7. You have developed a fear of squirrels
If you have stepped foot on this campus, you know what I am talking about. The squirrels are fearless. I have never experienced so many aggressive squirrels.
8. You have a closet full of costumes from Thursday night exchanges
Probably the most random articles of clothing are found in your closet, but they come in handy for weekly themed parties.
9. You are never bored
There is always something to do every day, all day — especially if you get involved. Walk outside and you can certainly find something to do.
10. You know you go to the greatest university of all time
Enough said.
