10 Signs You Were In Choir

In high school there were all different groups of people just like any ordinary high school. There were the popular crew, the athletes, the anime lovers, and then there was the music kids. Being a music kid meant that you spent a decent amount of time in the music wing doing what you love. Being in choir in high school was something great to be apart of. You always had friends in your class and you knew that this class would be the highlight of you long day. Here are some signs you were in choir in high school.

1. Singing songs on the radio.

Most choir teachers like to pick popular songs for you guys to sing. Every semester your teacher would pick a popular song that was non-stop playing on the radio. At first you guys are so happy with the song choice, but shortly by the end of 3 classes, you start to hate it. You guys would have to learn the song inside and out and then when you hear that song on the radio again you can never listen to it the same way. This also goes for any Christmas song that is played especially "All I Want For Christmas Is You".

2. Your teacher is your best friend.

Since you spend so much time in the music section of your school, you start to become very close with the teachers. Especially if your choir teacher has a free period, or during lessons, you knew that no work would get done and it would be all personal talk. You would talk about your classes and teacher or family or friends drama, and your teacher would do the same.

3. Warm ups were never fun for anyone.

No matter if you were a alto or a soprano, you hated warm ups. You would have to sing at your lowest and your highest. Some teachers would even make you do the "Do Re Mi" scale with hand gestures if you guys weren't paying attention properly. Or they would make you do sigh reading. You know id you had to sight reading, your teacher wasn't messing around that day.

4. You always try to harmonize with everything.

Just because you can harmonize to a song in class, doesn't mean you can do that with a song on the radio. You knew that learning harmonies wasn't fun to begin with, but for some reason you still try to do it with every song you hear.

5. Dairy products were the enemy.

Choir students love dairy, even more when they know they can't have it due to a concert coming up. Dairy makes the voice strain more, so choir students have to stay away from anything dairy including chocolate milk or coffee.

6. Tea and honey are the saviors.

No matter what time of year it is, choir kids love tea and honey. They drink this usually before a concert to make their voices not strain.

7. Hearing younger people sing make you cringe.

Yes high school choir kids are not the best singers still, but they can hear where younger kids are going wrong with their singing.

8. We all try to follow the person with the loudest voice.

Even if we are confident in the music, we still try to listen to the person with the loudest voice to help you get through the song.

9. Knowing the sopranos take up a big part of the choir.

Even if there are only 5 of them, you know that they own that choir.

10. Always wanting to sing.

You could be in the library or in the shower and we will always want to sing the first song that comes to our head.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
