Here we go again. Every college student's favorite time of the year. It is the end of the semester and it seems the world is caving in around us all. The work is piling up and the weather is getting warmer. Motivation is wavering, but somehow we will make it through to the other side together. Here are 10 signs that it is the end of the spring semester.
1. The Quad is filled with students.
Whether they are studying, tossing a Frisbee, or just soaking up the newly returned sunshine, when the quad starts getting crowded with students you know the semester is almost over. You spend all of class staring out the window and wishing you were out there.
2. The school's food starts to taste worse than ever (if that is even possible).
For some reason the food becomes so much worse in the last few weeks. It could be the true lack of quality or maybe it is the redundancy of eating this stuff for months on end, but the end of the semester has me craving real home cooked food like never before.
3. Stress eating is a real thing.
Even if the school's food becomes the worst thing ever somehow you find snacks that make you happy and for a few minutes while you indulge you can forget about all the work you need to do. We have all had that moment when we realize we have eaten too many bowls of ice cream than we really should be proud of.
4. Coffee is the drink of the college gods.
Coffee is that little miracle worker that gets you through the day...and the long night of studying. Even if you are not a regular coffee drinker; we all need that caffeine boost at the end of the semester.
5. Sweatpants become a staple in everyone's wardrobe.
Even those people who once had the motivation to dress nice for class regularly somehow turn into the laziest dressers of all time at the end of the semester. At this point everyone is too tired, nor do they have the time to care.
6. The classroom is fuller than ever before.
Suddenly class is filled with people you have never seen in your entire life. These are the people who avoid class all semester, then show up at the very end to get the last sets of notes and take the last test. Of course they mess up the coveted nonverbal assigned seat rule and the entire classroom vibe is out of wack.
7. The true test of time management begins.
The transition into college teaches you time management your first semester, but the end of the year is on a whole new level. Every professor expects you to put all of your effort into their class and suddenly you have what feels like, five papers due, four quizzes, two exams, and a presentation all in one day.
8. You really start to analyze your grades.
You begin to calculate your exact grade in each course and the exact score you need on each final exam to get your desired grade. This is the only way to prioritize what you should study and what you NEED to study.
9. Those awful words "The final is cumulative."
These are the worst four words any professor could ever say and any college student can ever hear. Just when you started to forget all that information from the beginning of the semester, you need to make sure it does not leave you quite yet.
10. The realization of leaving your friends for three months starts to hit.
After spending nearly every single day with these people, it is such a devastating realization that all of the friends you have made here at school cannot come home with you over the summer. Despite this you know that when you return in August with at least 1,000 fun stories to fill them in on.
Even though the end of semester is hectic and stressful, we will all get through it. Finals are almost here and summer vacation will be well worth the wait and all of the hard work.
