Fellow Pottheads, we have been waiting years for this. We have been waiting for the continuation of the Harry Potter series since the first time we finished "The Deathly Hallows." Yes, we have gotten mean looks from people. Yes we have been told to grow up. Yes we have been to calm down, it's just a book, but we all know it is so much more than that. For some of us, Harry Potter was the reason we fell in love with reading. For some of us, Harry Potter is what made the days bearable. For some of us Harry Potter brought us best friends, but for all of us, Harry Potter brought us a magical journey. Here's some signs you're still a part of this fandom today.
1. The look you give people who haven't read the books and call themselves fans.
You can love the movies, sure, but please, please for the love of all that it is magic, read the books! Fall in love with them! Experience them! Seriously, you may you think you know Harry Potter, but until you've read those books, you don't.
2. Having to defend your OTP over and over again.
You know you are deep into this fandom when someone brings up Snape and Lily and you have to stop yourself from going crazy on them.
3. Your phone is also a wand.
Admit it, sometimes when you turn on the flashlight on your phone, you whisper lumos to yourself as you turn it on and nox when you turn it off.
4. You didn't just read about the Quidditch matches, you played in the Quidditch matches.
You might think you'd feel stupid running about with a broomstick between your legs, or chasing after a dude wearing a gold spandex costume, but you actually feel like a real hero. Especially when you made a perfect throw. You are definitely Potthead if you can genuinely say your favorite sport is Qudditch.
5. You don't know just know the Harry Potter fan theories: you've written your own.
In my long list of Harry Potter conspiracies, my favorite one is that J.K. Rowling is actually Rita Skeeter. She was banned from the magic world by the Ministry after writing forbidden stories, and now she's out here in the muggle world, with an imagination maybe a little too good to be totally fictional. I'm on to you.
6. It doesn't matter how many times you've seen the movies: you are going to cry.
I don't care how many times I see the battle at Hogwarts- I'm gonna bawl my eyes out every time I see it. Why? I have a heart, that's why.
7. Ditching plans for a Harry Potter weekend was a valid excuse: even if your friends didn't think so.
I don't know if you can relate, but there were several weekends in my life when I would cancel any and all plans with friends to binge watch the movies. In fact, I still do this upon occasion. Sorry, but I am not sorry about it.
8. When you heard about the release of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child"
I was ready to knock every child out of my way. Okay, so we didn't wait twelve literal years, but to a book nerd, every second after you finish the series is a life time. Honestly, what did you think was going to happen when I didn't have a new Harry Potter being released to look forward to? Make friends?
9. When Dobby died, so did part of your soul.
I remember sobbing at this part of the book. I remember sobbing in the movies at this part of the movie. I remember my friends and I all giving up a sock for a day to honor Dobby: gone but never forgotten.
10. You've taken every sorting hat quiz.
When you first the read books, you can't help but to sort yourself into a hat. I also thought I'd be a Hufflepuff, but every quiz I take tells me I'm Slytherin, which after reading "The Cursed Child," I feel slightly better about.
