It's on a Mount, you can see the way.

Mount Saint Joseph Academy was an all girl school in Brighton, MA. Although it has recently closed, the memories of attending this school stay with the people who were lucky enough to go here. Here are a few things people that attended MSJA can relate to.

1. To this day, you can still recite the Mount Song

The Mount Song is what you sang at the beginning of any assembly, school meeting, or mass. The song was so engraved in your memory that I can bet you could probably sing the whole thing now, or maybe you’re even singing it in your head as you read this.

2. Big Sister Little Sister

As a freshman, it’s a little nerve racking to go into a school where you do not really know anyone. Being assigned a big sister not only allowed you to become more comfortable in your transition from 8th grade school to high school, but it also was a way to make more friends form different towns and grades.

3. School Assemblies

Don’t let the fact that MSJA was an all girls school fool you, the assemblies, specifically when the seniors and juniors versed each other in flag football, were intense.

4. Second Lunches were both a blessing and a curse

You could tell who in your class had second lunch, because the sound stomach growls filled your classroom. Despite that, second lunches also meant that you only had two classes left in the day.

5. Oxfam

Oxfam was a day of fasting in order to raise money and awareness for the hungry. Although the fasting part was not all too fun, the activities, games, and sleepover at the school were what people looked forward to.

6. Cookies

The bags of cookies sold at every lunch were definitely a must for students. Even though these cookies were made from cookie dough sold at any local grocery store, there was something about them that made them addicting.

7. Sports Teams

We may not have been the best teams in the league, but being a member of the sports teams at Mount Saint Joseph Academy were probably some of the highlights of your high school years. Your team members were the people that soon became some of your closest friends. And getting an occasional early dismissal to get to some of the games on time were the best.

8. Mrs. Heitman is BAE

It didn’t matter that Mrs. Heitman was strict or that she expected you to write down everything she said, she was literally the best teacher you had at the Mount. Her passion for history was inspiring, and not to mention she was hilarious. She may not have been a guidance counselor, but she was definitely the person to go to for advice, if you had any problems, or to gossip.

9) The Cold Stairs

The cold stairs are where you went to check your texts without being seen, talk to friends before class, get out of the heat in the summer time, and to simply waste time before making the climb to the fifth floor.

10. The Sisterhood of the Maroon Sweaters is seriously a thing

People may joke about the sisterhood of the maroon sweaters, but even though it sounds cliché, it’s a legitimate thing. The friends you made at Mount Saint Joseph Academy are friends that you’ll have for a long time. Despite the fact that you may not see your high school friends that often, they will be there for you whenever needed. Through losses and success, these women have your back. I will forever and always be grateful for the lessons I learned and friends I made through Mount Saint Joseph Academy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
