We've all been there. We've all been at that point where the only thing that can keep us awake is the warm, bitter bite of coffee. That electrifying feeling of caffeine waking your system up is just what some of us need sometimes.
However, for some of us (yes, I'm absolutely including myself), it's something we need all the time.
For those who do fall under that umbrella with me, here's a few things I've noticed over the many years of drinking coffee, and you probably have too.
1. Refusing to converse with anyone before you've had your morning cup.
"Honestly, for your safety and mine, please wait until I've had this."
2. You schedule your morning commute to include extra time to hit up a drive-thru at your local coffee joint.
"If I leave at 10 a.m., I'll get to Starbucks at 10:30, spend 10 minutes or so waiting and ordering and getting my drink... That gives me adequate time to get there. Perfect!"
3. You have a VERY SPECIFIC order. (Which may or may not include soy milk, light ice, extra espresso shots and extra caramel drizzle. Y'know, hypothetically).
"But it's SOOOOO good!"
4. And you feel so much better after you've had said order.
"I'm so ALIVE RIGHT NOW."
5. It's the only thing that can put you in a better mood.
"Honestly, a iced caramel macchiato would be the solution to ALL my problems right now."
6. You are absolutely part of a rewards program. And have filled up plenty rewards cards. Probably too many...
No caption needed, am I right?
7.You are counting the days until seasonal drinks come back (i.e. Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Peppermint Mochas, etc).
"Why are they not here now?"
8. You have the same reaction to people saying "why don't you try decaf?"
"Because bean-water with caffeine is better than bean-water with no caffeine."
9. Your doctor has definitely told you, probably more than once, that you need to cut down on the caffeine intake.
"Seriously...how?"
10. You realize it's an essential part of your life. And you've accepted that.
So, here's to coffee. Thanks for all you do, you lovely, bitter bean water.
