10 Signs You Have A Campus Job

10 Signs You Have A Campus Job

1. You internally make a face of disgust when your friends tell you they don't know how you do it because they just don't have enough time for one.

You're my friends and I love you, but let's be real: we all have the same 24 hours in a day. I'm taking 17 credits, I'm in campus clubs, so believe me it's not easy having a job. Saying things like this does not help!

2. You've probably purposely scheduled classes to start late on Fridays, only to be scheduled for a 7AM (SEVEN IN THE MORNING) shift that very same day.

You thought you were making a great choice. You have 8AM classes four times a week, and then you don't have to start class until 1:50 on Fridays. But the joke is on you! There is no winning. It's either early classes, or early shifts.

3. You don't understand it when people complain about being a typical broke college student, but still won't apply for a job.

If you want more pocket money... get a job.

4. You've probably frantically ran to class straight from work frazzled and smelling like coffee, sweat, or greasy food more times than you'd like to count.

Class at 8AM? Class at 9:30? Work at 11:00? Class at 2:00? Another class at 4:00? Oh yeah, it's fine no problem!!

5. There's always that one club or fun random activity that you can't go to on campus because... you have work.

It's just so...sad.

6. You've mastered the art of going out on Thursdays while still looking (and being) alive and well for your 7AM shift the next morning.

(Or is this one just me?)

7. There's the one boss who puts the fear of God in you, and the one boss who you know you can crack jokes with the whole time.

Your favorite shifts are with the aforementioned easy going boss because she's basically a college student at heart and gets where you're coming from. But you usually get put on shifts with the scary one...

8. Sometimes you stop and think about all the extra time (*cough* 13 hours) each week you would have to frolic and do fun things (like study and hangout with friends) if you didn't have a job, and it pains you.

It's fine though!!

9. You begin to recognize people around campus as "cute British Friday morning guy who always orders a caramel iced latte" or "tall skinny vanilla non fat sugar free latte girl."

There are your favorite customers, and then there are the ones who make you want to cringe. Either way, the amount of familiar faces around campus has definitely increased since taking the job.

10. Despite all the negatives, your coworkers who are in it with you make it fun and more than bearable, and you know you won't actually quit even though you tell yourself you will at least once a week.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
