10 Signs You Are My Best Friend
Taylor Soileau

First off I’d like to thank you for being my friend. I am very blessed to have amazing friendships and people that go out of their way to help me every day. I want y'all to know I love each of you, and the memories we have made over the years I will cherish forever. Each of you are very different and help me in your own unique way. Here are some signs that you are not only my friend but my best friend and that you most likely know me better than I know myself.

1. You understand my many facial expressions.

Whether I’m secretly making heart eyes at the cute boy that just walked past us or I’m wanting you to come save me from the weirdo that just pulled me to dance, you understand and you’re always there. You can also tell when I’m super annoyed and faking a smile, which is a blessing and a curse at the same time.

2. You support my 2 a.m. craving for French fries

And you love me enough to get out of bed and come with me. You will ride to the mall with me just to get a cookie, or come to Sulphur with me just for Cracker Barrel. You complain with me on Sunday’s when I crave Chick-fil-A (but we also support Chick-fil-A’s religious views, we just like to complain). Most importantly you understand I NEED sushi at least once every two weeks. Thank you for always eating with me.

3. You are my biggest supporter

I know no matter how big or small I can turn to you and you will ALWAYS be there for me. You know my insecurities, fears, doubts, and the worst parts of me and you still love me, encourage me, and build me up as a person. For that I can’t thank you enough.

4. You are patient with me through my indecisiveness

Especially when it comes to shopping. You also know “I promise I’m just going into one store” is a major lie, but you still tag along. I know you get annoyed with me and you want to fuss but you never do.

5. You know that “I’m on my way” or “I’m almost ready” nine times out of ten means I’m leaving my house in fifteen minutes.

(Sorry for always being the last one ready)

6. You are also my (sort of) mom.

You force me to leave the bar when I’ve drank way too much and it’s time to go home. You fuss at me when I make stupid decisions or procrastinate (or both). You save me from texting that guy that we both know isn’t good for me. You have plenty of embarrassing pictures of me. You come visit me if I’m sick. Thank you for being a second mom, I need two sometimes.

7. You understand my jokes

Sometimes they’re extremely corny, sometimes they’re really mean, and sometimes they honestly aren’t funny, but you always laugh with me and occasionally at me. You understand that I like to annoy you just for the fun of it.

8. You don’t judge me for my Grey’s Anatomy obsession

9. I trust you with everything I have

You know pretty much every detail of my whole life, TMI isn’t a thing with us.

10. You have helped me through some of the hardest days

You've always been my shoulder to cry on, and always give the best advice.

There’s so many more things I could list, more memories I could share, but each of you know how much I value our friendship. You are the Meredith to my Cristina, the many blessings God has given me, my person, my best friend. I love you times a million.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours.
