10 Signs That You Miss Alabama Football

I wrote this as a coping mechanism.

10 Signs That You Miss Alabama Football

I absolutely love summer. Some people say it’s the season that has everything, sunny weather, no school, beach trips and lots of time to spend with friends and family. However, there is a clear reason that summer can never be my favorite season, its lack of Alabama football. Every Saturday I turn on my television hoping to see kickoff in Bryant-Denny, but it just doesn't appear. If you love Alabama football as much as I do, no amount of tropical vacationing and free time can actually make up for such a tragedy. As a coping mechanism I’ve decided to make a list of signs that will tell you if you miss it, too.

1. You frequently watch replays of the games on television.

I think I’ve probably seen the SEC Championship about six times, the spring game about eight and the National Championship game about twenty, if we’re being conservative with our estimations. Reliving the magic really never gets old but it still can’t compare to watching in real time.

2. You miss Verne and Gary.

Okay, so I have to admit that sometimes I mute them, but at this point in the year I would give anything to hear the voices of Verne and Gary. I would even be okay with Verne calling a few dozen players by the wrong name. I really miss those guys and I'm pretty sad that Verne is retiring after the upcoming season.

3.You're trying to fill the emptiness with another sport.

First I tried hockey, but I’m still not sure I fully understand it. Just as I was getting into college softball the season ended. Basketball is okay, but the NBA Finals seem kind of boring so far and the squeaky shoes always get to me. I am a pretty big major league baseball fan, but let’s be honest, nothing is good enough to truly fill the emptiness.

4. You miss Coach Saban's weekly press conferences.

This is a huge one for me. I know we still get some rants and pressers during the off-season but it really doesn’t compare. I mean, where does that coke bottle on the podium even go in the off-season?

5. You're already coordinating your game day wardrobe.

This is a pretty important one. I hate waking up on game day unsure of what to wear, and picking it out this far in advance reminds me that the most wonderful time of the year is approaching.

6. You cried when spring football was over.

This may sound a bit extreme, but it’s actually a thing I did. I was unbelievably excited about A-Day until it was over and I realized that football wouldn’t return until the fall. What am I even supposed to do until then?

7. Being on campus gives you football nostalgia.

I walk by the stadium almost every single day and let me tell you, this is real. Sometimes I past the Saban statue just to tell him how much I miss football. I think he understands.

8. You already have a list of predictions for next season.

Probably the only fun thing about waiting for next season is making predictions about it. It’s also interesting to see what all of the sports analysts have to say. Don’t take too much of it to heart though, especially if they predict that Alabama will lose.

9. You have a countdown on your phone.

I am totally unashamed to say that I have one of these. We are officially under 100 days, people. If you aren’t getting excited then you should be.

10. Sometimes you pretend that it's already September.

This is me pretty much every single day. Nothing compares to those Saturdays spent on the Quad in the fall and I’ll be waiting impatiently until they return.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
