10 Semi-Fun Things About Rain

I am trying to be a Positive Polly, but I definitely did not move to San Diego for the rain. Since it does not happen often, this would be the time to appreciate it (or whatever). In all honesty, I am the person who buys kid-sized umbrellas so no one tries to squeeze in next to me on my way to class ... but it’s not an entirely awful feat, there are a few fun things about a torrential downpour. Maybe I do not entirely hate the rain.

Quite simply: it smells good. A lot of candles attempt to capture the scent of rainfall, but nothing quite encapsulates the “fresh water hitting asphalt” scent.

Rainboots are adorbs, not to mention any and all matching accessories. Clear raincoats and egg shaped vintage umbrellas are to die for. Surprisingly, Lilly Pulitzer umbrellas are very affordable (considering I will use mine about 4 times in an entire calendar year).

Water actually makes the world go around. This summer when I am ecstatic about strawberry season, I will thank the rain gods for providing me with bountiful crops of delicious fruits. Not to mention, every time it rains it makes up for all the water y'all wasted doing the ice bucket challenge last summer. **insert Kermit and coffee cup emojis**

It's spiritual, or whatever. The symbolic and physical representation that rain represents a cleansing of the earth is refreshing and much needed at times when we are all just wishing for a couple do-overs or fresh starts. It takes me back to the rhyme we learned about rain and condensation in the third grade: what goes around comes around, as does the rain cycle.

It makes me appreciate sunny and seventy-five even more.

The sound is soothing. Falling asleep to the pitter-patter of raindrops on your window and ceilings is calming in the midst of life's hectic antics.

It's the perfect excuse to do ... nothing. If you have nowhere to be, it is the perfect excuse to stay home and curl up with a good book or bake cookies or do anything you swear you’re too busy to do any other time. Also rainy days and cold weather call for a good pot of beef stew or other liquid-type dinners that resemble soup.

Rainbows Who doesn't love a dramatic Instagram post about the rainbow across your mid-afternoon sky?

Free car wash For someone like me who washes their car next to never, a good rainfall washes all the dirt away from Miss Civic and saves me a trip to the car wash.

The dance scene from Step Up 2is enough to make anyone want to get up, get out, and bust a move even in a hurricane.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
