As someone one who grew up in the 90s, I have always been a devoted fan of "Seinfeld." It has been called “the show about nothing,” but as many of us know, the series followed around a group of four individuals who mostly complained about other people. Who can’t relate to that, right? Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer always seem to find something to criticize while discussing “the excruciating minutia of every single daily event,” as Elaine told Jerry one episode. Although the show’s last episode aired in 1998, fans have been able to enjoy re-runs and always remember life’s daily struggles as told by the unforgettable foursome.
With finals week quickly approaching for many of us, a few quotes from the beloved sitcom come to mind.
1. When Jerry and Elaine were discussing people on a plane…
Elaine: “I will never understand people.”
Jerry: “They’re the worst.”
2. We can all relate to the fear of this feeling…
“Hi, my name is George, I’m unemployed and I live with my parents.”
3. The sweatpants debate…
“You know the message you're sending out to the world with these sweatpants? You're telling the world, 'I give up. I can't compete in normal society. I'm miserable, so I might as well be comfortable.'”
4. When George and Kramer were discussing George’s life prospects…
Kramer: “Do you have any conceivable reason for even getting up in the morning?
George: “I like to get the Daily News.”
5. And who can’t relate to George’s lifelong dream of *pretending* to be an architect,
“You know, I always wanted to be pretend I was an architect.”
6. Elaine’s thoughts on going to work…
“I had to take a sick day, I’m so sick of these people.”
7. Some more of George’s words of wisdom regarding lying…AKA how we all feel while turning in our finals
“Just remember, it’s not a lie if you believe it”
8. George feeling confident about his life’s achievements...
“You know, if you take everything I’ve done in my entire life and condense it down to one day, it looks decent.”
9. Story of our lives…
“I love a good nap, sometimes it’s the only thing getting me up in the morning.”
10. When finals week and the semester finally come to an end and we’re ready to celebrate
“Here’s to feeling good all the time, huh?”
So instead of studying for finals, I will now binge watch "Seinfeld" for the millionth time and laugh just as hard as ever. Thank you to a show that has defined a generation, and still remains just as relevant and hilarious today.
